A PARAGON MEMORY CHANNEL FILE UTILITY
C A U T I O N !
THE PROGRAM ASSUMES THAT THE RADIO IS ON.
DO NOT LEAVE THE RADIO IN ANY WAIT STATE.
Use the ESCAPE key to EXIT a function when uncertain.
This program can be used as a stand along program for
memory management or as a complete utility for the
radio. If you do not have a serial board installed DO
NOT try to Connect to the radio.
RECORD DATA: Each PMF file can contain 62 memories. Each memory
record is 24 bytes or 1,488 bytes for each file.
I N S T A L L A T I O N
-------------------------------
Type PARAFIL <ENTER>. On startup you will be asked for the
following four entries for the PARAGON.USR file:
Callsign: Enter your call. The letters A-Z, numerals 0-9,
and the slash '/' are to be used in the normal
convention.
Fast Delay: .477 is the default value.
Voice Delay: 8.1 is the default value.
Verify: "Y": Verify enabled or ON. The program will prompt the
the user either before or after an entry. It is
suggested that the default value be used until
you are accustomed to the program.
"N": Verify disabled, almost all of the prompts will
be OFF. The ERASE all memory query is always
ON. Follow the prompts. The main screen will
show the state of the above.
If you give the program to someone else, or later find that
the file needs to be changed, just delete it and run the program.
This file is used for two programs, PARAFIL and PAR-XL.
The program assumes that the PARAGON.USR file along with any
.PMF memory files are in the current directory and/or drive.

CONNECT:
Opens the serial port (COM1:), extracts, and prints the
current data in the status frame.
OPEN:
Enter the file name with no extension. If no name is entered
the default name PARAGON.PMF is used. When a file is opened
any previous file loaded will be closed.
ADD:
The add screen will appear along with the next record num-
ber. No duplicate channel numbers are allowed. Please remember
that the channel number takes precedence over the frequency
when using the scan/memory tune function/s. All but the alpha-
numeric tag has to be entered. When entering the frequency a
decimal need not be entered for a whole number and only one
decimal is allowed, formatting is automatic. The frequency is
also retained for the next record as a reminder. The default for
MODE is USB, and the crystal FILTER is 6.0. See EDIT below.
When the record is correct "F10= Confirm ESC= Exit" will be
appear. On pressing F10 you will be asked to either S)ave, E)dit,
or Q)uit. If saved the record will be written, form cleared, and
ready for the next entry. Upon exiting, if any records where
added, an indexing will take place.
EDIT:
The program uses only the over-type mode while editing.
Please use the below editing commands. If you are in the middle
of a edit and you wish to exit, put the cursor on the first field
and press F10 or ESC.
CURSOR MOVEMENT COMMANDS:
[PgUp] - Move to the first field
[PgDn] - Move to last field
[DnAr],[Tab],[Enter],[^M],[^X] - Move down a field
[UpAr],[^E] - Move up a field
[^S],[LfAr] - Move a character left
[^D],[RtAr] - Move a character right
[^F],[End] - Move to end of field
[^A],[Home] - Move to beginning of field
DATA INSERT/DELETE COMMANDS:
[Del],[BSP],[^G],[^H] - delete a single character
[^Y] - delete entire line
[^T] - delete to end of line
[Ins] - insert space at cursor position
If a field was changed while editing a check mark will be
placed at the side of the field. If a mistake was made and you
wish to restore the field to the original entry do the following:
1. Go to the field to be restored.
2. Press ^Y to clear it.
3. Press <ENTER> and the original entry will be shown.
This feature is not available for the alpha tag. (more)

After you edit a record you will be asked for an OK, if
so, then it will be rewritten. If the channel number was changed,
and no duplicate was found, you will again be asked for an OK.
Just an added precaution. Follow the prompts. See ADD above.
Note: No entry deletion is available. You can use the PAR-XL
program, or manually erase a memory channel/s and then save the
new version. Experiment.
LOAD:
Used to load a .PMF file into the PARAGON. When a file is
loaded into memory only the channels in the file are used. Any
memory channel in memory of a different number are unaffected.
PRINT Console / Printer:
Console: Listing is by channel number only.
Printer: You can list by records, frequency, or by memory
channel number.
SAVE:
Enter the name of the memory file or us the default name. If
a file exists with the same name you be notified. All memory
channels are read, checked, and if in use written to the file.
The format is the same as Sto-Enter. Patience OM.
QUIT:
You guessed it!
ERASE:
The erase all PARAGON memory function is activated by press-
ing ^Z. All the memory channels will be cleared from the PARAGON,
whether in use or not. If you use the PAR-XL program after doing
a complete erasure, DO NOT USE THE MEMORY TUNE MODE. Enter two or
memories before using this function. The scratch-pad channel (62)
will remain in memory, if entered.
A PARAGON memory file is indexed/sorted twice under the
following conditions: when it is loaded, if any additional re-
cord/s where added, and after an editing session.
Timing:
If an hangup occurs try changing the fast/voice values.
DO NOT LEAVE THE PARAGON IN A WAIT STATE. Complete any manual
operations before using any software function. Run the program on
disk called 'TIMDEF' to check against your machine.
Printer:
The program uses the following codes;
ASCII code: SI (Select condensed)
Decimal: 15
ASCII code: DC2 (Cancel condensed)
Decimal: 18
ASCII code: FF (Form feed)
Decimal: 12
