Documentation for the colour editor FARBEN.EXE
==============================================
If there is an EGA or VGA video card in your computer, you can
change the colours of ZET. With EGA you can choose 16 out of 64,
with VGA 16 out of 262.144 (64 to the third power) colours.
Program Start:
1. Type farben at the DOS-prompt and press Enter
or
2. Choose <Colors> in menu <Extra>.
Syntax: farben [/ega|/vga|/vganostd] [filename]
If there are no problems with the automatic detection of the video
card, it's not necessary to enter /ega or /vga when you start
FARBEN.
If you add the name of a file that exists, colour data stored in
this file will be taken to custom colours. Colour data files have
got the extension .COL.
The DOS command MODE CO80 resets colour changes.
If you use the parameter /vganostd (only with a VGA-card!), color
registers won't be changed when video mode is reset (e.g. changing
into graphics mode or executing the DOS command MODE CO80). This
allows to change the colours of almost every program (including
Windows programs; DOS programs which are started from Windows
become invisible in most cases!). Use the parameters /vga and
/vganostd ONLY if you have got a VGA card! This function is
provided by the VGA-BIOS (interrupt 10h, function 12h, subfunction
31h).
Example colour data files:
Some only work with VGA, some look nice only with EGA and others
are good for both VGA and EGA. Try them out.
Operation:
A value is incremented when the enhanced key is pressed, and
decremented when Shift+enhanced key is pressed.
The left mouse key increments, the right mouse key decrements
values.
Colour intensities (only VGA) can be changed pressing keys or
moving the sliders with the mouse.
Colours can be selected directly by pointing the mouse on the
colour bars.
You can move the window by pointing the mouse at the upper left
corner.
Load colours automatically in ZET:
If you want to see special colours automatically when you have
started ZET, save them with <Save for ZET>. New colours are
written to file NEUFARBE.ZET, original colours to file
ALTFARBE.ZET. If ZET finds NEUFARBE.ZET when it's started, these
colors are loaded. If ZET finds ALTFARBE.ZET when you finish it,
the colours stored there are loaded.
Other character sets:
If you use other character sets in ZET, the colours 4, 6, 8 and 9
(red, brown, darkgray and lightblue) will be loaded with different
palette data.
