  5.   Garlic will  ripen and break  imposthumes
  6. or  other  swellings.  Onions  are  equally
  7. effectual  for  all  these  diseases.   But
  8. garlic has some peculiar virtues.  It has a
  9. special  quality to dismiss inconveniences,
  10. coming  by  corrupt   aques   (malaria)  or
  11. mineral  vapors;  by  drinking  corrupt  or
  12. stinking  waters;  or by taking Wolf'sbane,
  13. Henbane,  Hemlock or  other  poisonous  and
  14. dangerous herbs.  Garlic is  also  good  in
  15. hydropic   diseases,   jaundice,   falling-
  16. sickness,  cramps,  convulsions,  piles  or
  17. other cold diseases.

  20. However,  its  heat is  vehement;  and in
  21. choleric (angry) men, it will add fuel to
  22. the  fire  .  .  . In  men  oppressed  by  
  23. melancholy,  it   will   accentuate   the
  24. humour.   Therefore,  let  it  be   taken
  25. inwardly    with    great     moderation;
  26. outwardly you may make  more  bold use of
  27. it.
