Growing your own garlic will give
you the best tasting cloves you
will find anywhere. The first time
you plant you will have to choose
cloves from the commercially grown
bulbs. Choose cloves which are the
largest and the firmest ones.
Prepare your planting bed and dig
to about a 3 inch depth. Make sure
the soil is well broken up. If the
soil is poor nutritionally, you can
fertilize at this point.
When you are ready to plant, push
your finger into the soil about 2"
and place the clove point up into
the hole. Firm the dirt around the
clove. Do not remove the paper

covering from the cloves. Keep each
clove about 3" from each other. This
will give sufficient space for the
new bulbs. Plant as many cloves as
you feel you can use the next year.
Water well and in a week or so, you
should fertilize if not previously
done. We use Miracle-Gro and have
had good success. In about 2 weeks,
you will see your first green shoots
poking through the ground.
Now a strange thing will occur in
your garden ... it will be bug and
pest free as long as the garlic is in
the ground. This is one of the un-
known advantages of growing your own
magic bulbs.
