[SIZE VERSE BUFFER]
PURPOSE: To let you choose the amount of disk buffering in viewing verses.
THOTS: The lower the number, the faster SeedMaster will refresh its
buffers as you scroll through verses.
Note that only one half of the value chosen may be displayed
in the window at a time (the rest of the window lines, if any,
will be blank).
You can help fill the window by disabling the SHOW PARAGRAPH
option (see below).
In general, if you have a slow computer, choose a lower value.
For the RAM concious, less memory is consumed with lower values.
ENTER: 10 to 99
NOTES: This value is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[WORD ORDER]
PURPOSE: To allow you to control enforcing word order in phrase searches.
THOTS: If you select "None", no order will be enforced. This will
generate the most references from a word combination, and will
be the fastest search.
If you select "General" or "Literal", SeedMaster must screen
potential verses containing phrase words for the proper order.
This takes more time than a "None" search, but it will be faster
than you can screen the verses manually. The search time depends
on how many verses contain the phrase words.
If you choose "General" order, the words will be in order, but
other words may be BETWEEN the phrase words.
If you use "Literal" order, only spaces or punctuation will
be permitted between words.
If you have enabled Case Sensitivity on the dialog box, adding
Word Order won't signficantly slow down a search.
ENTER: Select your choice by pressing <Space> until a "button" appears
next to your choice.
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit the dialog box and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit the dialog box and save changes: Press <F7>.
[CASE SENSITIVITY]
PURPOSE: To allow you to enforce case sensitivity in a word or phrase search.
THOTS: If the box is not X'd ([ ]), case sensitivity will not be enforced.
This will generate the most references from a word combination,
and will be the fastest search.
If the box is X'd ([X]), case sensitivity will be enforced. Seed-
Master must then screen potential verses containing phrase words
for the proper cases. This takes more time, but it will be
faster than you can screen the verses manually. The search time
depends on how many verses contain the phrase words.
ENTER: Select your choice by pressing <Space> until a "X" appears or dis-
appears.
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit the dialog box and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit the dialog box and save changes: Press <F7>.
[VERSE FRAGMENTS]
PURPOSE: To allow you to speed up the display of Search results.
THOTS: If you select "None", only the verse references (no verse text)
will appear. This can result in significantly faster
searches, especially on slow computers.
If you choose "Verse Start" or "Word Context", a fragment of the
verse will be displayed in the ajoining window.
If you use "Verse Start", the beginning of the verse will show.
Many people recognize a verse by how it starts, rather than
the words in the middle. Also, it is a little faster than
"Word Context".
If your answer is "Word Context", the context of the searched
word(s) will show. If more than one word is used, the first
one in the verse is keyed on. This helps you quickly screen
word uses. For example, the word "lie" can indicate falsehood
or a reclining position.
ENTER: Select your choice by pressing <Space> until a "button" appears
next to your choice.
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[FILE SAVE AS]
PURPOSE: To allow you to specify a file name for your Search or Notepad
files.
THOTS: SeedMaster tracks file extensions and appends the appropriate
extension automatically. For Search files, it uses ".SMS"
(for SeedMaster Search). For Notepad files, it uses ".TXT".
ENTER: Enter the file name only, do not provide a file extension.
[SELECT OUTPUT DEVICE]
PURPOSE: To allow you to select a previously defined output devices.
THOTS: This allows you to select among output devices (such as printers
or disk files) that you defined under "Printer Setup" on the
File menu.
ENTER: 1 to 4.
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[USE MARGINS]
PURPOSE: To allow you to control printed output format.
THOTS: The margins are entered in Printer Setup in the File Menu.
If you toggle this check box "X" with the <Space> bar, Seed-
Master will use the optional margins as it prints.
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[FORM FEED]
PURPOSE: To allow you print multiple times to the same page.
THOTS: If you toggle this check box "X" with the <Space> bar, Seed-
Master will issue a form feed to the printer after each time
you print. This is the default when you start SeedMaster.
If this check box is empty " ", SeedMaster will not issue a form
feed after every print. This way, more than one print can
appear on the same page. WARNING: SeedMaster will track the
number of lines printed in prior printings if you are using
printer margins. If you manually form feed the printer (instead
of letting SeedMaster do it by turning Form Feed ON for the last
print) your form feeds will be misplaced. SeedMaster will only
track the number of lines printed during each session. If you
exit SeedMaster, the number of lines printed will be lost.
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[USE PRINTER CODES]
PURPOSE: To allow you to control printed output format.
THOTS: The printer codes are entered in Printer Setup in the File Menu.
If you toggle this check box "X" with the <Space> bar, Seed-
Master will use the optional Printer Codes to use your printer's
special fonts or printing styles. If defined, it will use
the initialization codes to change your default font or printing
format. It will also use the Highlighting ON/OFF Codes to have
Search words underlined, bold-faced, in italics, etc.
If codes are not used, you can still print.
For printing to a disk file, you will probably NOT want to use
the codes.
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[PRINT REFERENCES ONLY]
PURPOSE: To allow you to control printed output format.
THOTS: If you toggle this check box "X" with the <Space> bar, SeedMaster
will only print the verse reference for any verses selected,
and NOT print the verse text. This is useful for generating
lists of Search results to disk for importing into a document.
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[PRINT TOGGLED ONLY]
PURPOSE: To allow you to control which verse references are printed in
SEARCH only.
THOTS: If you toggle this check box "X" with the <Space> bar, only those
verses that are toggled ON (*), will be printed. If you want
to print only selected references, toggle them and choose this
option.
If you toggle this check box " " (blank), ALL Search verse
references will be printed. If you want to print out all the
references from a search, select this option.
ENTER: Y(es) or N(o)
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[PRINT COMMENTARY]
PURPOSE: To let you print your commentary as you print out verses.
THOTS: This option is not available when you are simply printing
commentary or Notepad files.
ENTER: If you toggle this check box "X" with the <Space> bar,
SeedMaster will print any commentary that exists for a
verse on the next line after the verse.
NOTES: This choice is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[DEFINE OUTPUT DEVICES]
PURPOSE: To allow you to describe and define output device(s).
THOTS: This allows you to define output devices (such as printers
or disk files).
Whenever SeedMaster will refer to an output device, it will
refer its Description, rather than the cryptic DOS Device
Name.
ENTER: The Device Name is the name DOS uses to refer to a device.
For printers, generally you can use "PRN" or "LPT1". Serial
printers may use "COM1" or "COM2".
For DOS TEXT files, put the DOS "drive:\path\filename.ext"
specification in the Device Name field. For example, if
you want to create a file named "TEXT.DAT" in your word
processor's directory "\WP" on your "C:" drive, you would
use: "C:\WP\TEXT.DAT".
Consult your DOS manual for more information on drives, paths
filenames and devices.
NOTES: This information is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[PAGE MARGINS/LINES]
PURPOSE: To allow you to control printed output format.
THOTS: Left Margin: # of spaces from the left edge that printing begins.
Right Margin: # of spaces from the left edge that printing stops.
Top Margin: # of blank lines at the top of a page.
Lines/Page: # of PRINTED lines per page before a form feed (page
break). If you specify 0 (zero), no form feeds
will be issued and lines will print consecutively.
Example: Most printers have 80 spaces/line and 66 lines/page.
For left and right margins of 5 spaces and top
and bottom margins of 5 lines, use:
Left Margin = 5 Right Margin = 75
Top Margin = 5 Lines/Page = 56
NOTES: This information is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[DEFINE PRINTER CODES]
PURPOSE: The optional Printer Codes are provided to use your printer's
special fonts or printing styles. You use the Initialization Codes
to change your intial font or printing format. You use the
Highlighting ON/OFF Codes to have Search words underlined, bold-
faced, in italics, etc.
THOTS: The Description field is for you to enter the purpose of the codes
i.e., "Underlining ON".
Initialization Codes are used before printing anything.
Highlighting ON Codes are used before a search word.
Highlighting OFF Codes are used after it.
The codes call for the DECIMAL equivalent of ASCII code(s) that
your printer uses to change modes. See your printer manual.
Enter the codes in order, leaving any extra codes set to -1.
Examples: Underlining ON: Most Epson printers: 27 45 1
Most Okidata printers: 27 67
Underlining OFF: Most Epson printers: 27 45 0
Most Okidata printers: 27 68
NOTES: This information is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[DIRECTORY DIALOG]
PURPOSE: To allow you to specify file directories for SeedMaster
files other than the standard SeedMaster directory.
THOTS: The default for all directory types is the SeedMaster directory.
To change to another directory, that directory must exist.
Bible database directories are checked for validity, but NOT
that the files exist in that directory. You should not need to
change the directory for the database that SeedMaster is
currently using, but if you do, exercise EXTREME CARE!
ENTER: Search File Directory is the directory in which search files
will be stored.
Notepad File Directory is the directory in which Notepad files
will be stored. You may want to specify the directory of
your word processor or editor.
Commentary File Directory is the directory in which the
commentary files are stored. You may wish to have multiple
commentary directories if more than one person uses
Seed-Master on the same computer.
NOTES: This information is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[MERGE HELP]
PURPOSE: To allow you to merge a stored search with the current search on
the screen using AND, OR, XOR or NOT logic.
THOTS: OR logic creates a new list containing ALL verses in EITHER
of the original searches.
AND logic results in a new search containing only verses
in BOTH the original searches.
"XOR" stands for "eXclusive OR". It makes a list containing
verses in either original search--BUT NOT BOTH.
NOT logic REMOVES from the screen list ANY verses in the
disk-based search.
Example: Screen contains verses: 1, 2, 3, 5
Disk search contains: 1, 2, 4
OR result: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
AND result: 1, 2
XOR result: 3, 4, 5
NOT result: 3, 5
ENTER: To toggle a radio button ON or OFF, press the <Space> bar.
NOTES: This information is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[NOTEPAD SIZE]
PURPOSE: To allow you to specify the amount of memory allocated to the
Notepad.
THOTS: This question is only asked when you enter a new Notepad.
The size is the maximum number of characters (or keystrokes)
the Notepad can hold at one time.
As with all radio buttons, only one of the choices can be
made at one time.
ENTER: To toggle a radio button ON or OFF, press the <Space> bar.
NOTES: This information is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[GREEK TYPING]
PURPOSE: To allow you to customize the entry of approximated greek text.
THOTS: We haven't tried it, but this will probably support the use
of foreign language keyboards.
ENTER: The ENGLISH keyboard character (A-Z, etc.) you want to translate
to the approximated Greek when typing approximated Greek.
NOTES: DO NOT ENTER THE SAME CHARACTER TWICE.
[GREEK CHARS]
PURPOSE: To allow you to customize the viewing of approximated greek text.
THOTS: SeedMaster's use of "approximated" text lets you take advantage of
a PC's standard character set that includes many, but not all of
Greek alphabet. This "standard" is supported in the graphics mode
of a wide variety of printers. This method lets SeedMaster
"approximate" the Greek alphabet on all PC monitors and a large
number of printers--without special (and often painful) drivers.
You must choose "approximated" on the "Choose GNT & RVA Characters"
dialog box to use these characters.
We haven't tried it, but this will probably support the use
of foreign language character sets.
ENTER: The codes call for the DECIMAL equivalent of ASCII code(s) for
the PC character you want. Your DOS manual lists the characters
with their DECIMAL and HEX numbers. Use the DECIMAL numbers.
NOTES: DO NOT USE THE SAME CHARACTER TWICE.
SeedMaster's standard "approximated" characters reflect what we feel
is the best combination of characters. Use this feature to
"tweak" this set to suit your needs.
If you foul up the set and want to start over, just delete your
OPTIONS.DAT file. Note that you will lose your other options.
[SPECIAL CHARS]
PURPOSE: To allow you to use extended PC characters in the RVA and GNT.
THOTS: SeedMaster's use of "approximated" text lets you take advantage of
a PC's standard character set that includes many, but not all of
Greek alphabet. Accented RVA characters are also included. This
"PC standard" is supported in the graphics mode of a wide variety
of printers. This method lets SeedMaster "approximate" the Greek
alphabet or RVA characters on all PC monitors and a large number
of printers--without special (and often painful) drivers.
You can choose your own "approximated" GNT characters in the
"Greek Characters..." dialog box.
ENTER: GNT: Choose standard transliterated or approximated text.
Breathing marks are optional.
RVA: Choose accented or non-accented text.
[SWITCH VERSIONS]
PURPOSE: To allow you to change your Bible version in VIEW mode.
ENTER: Choose your version from the list.
[ASSOCIATOR VERSIONS]
PURPOSE: To allow you to change the Bible versions the Associator uses.
ENTER: Choose your From version from the list.
Choose your To version from the list.
NOTES: They can be the same version for intra-version association.
[INTERLINEAR CODES]
PURPOSE: To allow you to customize order of interlinear Bible versions.
THOTS: For starting WORD lists and searches, SeedMaster will assume the
Bible version you want to use is the first one in the list.
For systems with tight RAM, remember that each version added
consumes more RAM.
Scrolling operations will be slowed somewhat in interlinear display.
ENTER: The codes for the Bible versions you want displayed, in order.
G=GNT, K=KJV, N=NIV, R=RSV, V=RVA
NOTES: Example: If you wanted all the translations shown in alphabetical
order, you would enter "GKNRV".
We can't think why you would want to, but you can use the same
Bible version more than once. "KKKKK" would sure look strange,
but it will work.
[OK / CANCEL BUTTON]
PURPOSE: To allow you to exit or quit a dialog window.
THOTS: If you press <Enter> on the OK button, you accept the changes
you may have made in the dialog window before exiting.
If you press <Enter> on the CANCEL button, you quit the dialog
window and any changes you may have made are lost.
ENTER: To execute the appropriate button, press <Enter>.
To move to the next field in the dialog window, press <Down>
or <Tab>.
To move to a prior field in the dialog window, press <Up> or
<Shift><Tab>.
[SET RANGES]
PURPOSE: To allow let you specify a full or restricted Search range. For
instance, you may be interested in a particular author's use of
a word, say, Luke's. You would set two ranges - the books of
Luke and Acts, excluding the intervening John.
ADD: There are 5 methods to add a range:
<W> Whole Bible: Genesis through Revelation.
<O> Old Testament: Genesis through Malachi.
<N> New Testament: Matthew through Revelation.
<B> Book: Select book from book menu (standard order).
<S> Specific Range: Select beginning and ending
book/chapter/verse.
DELETE: <D> You can delete a specific range by answering with the
appropriate range letter (A-Z).
You can delete all the defined ranges (clear) by answering
with an *.
THOTS: Your search range will be the CUMULATIVE range of ranges A to Z.
It is possible to define overlapping search ranges. For example,
you can set Range A to the Whole Bible, and Range B to the New
Testament. While this doesn't hurt anything, it isn't very
productive either.
If you Delete all ranges and do NOT Add at least one, SeedMaster
will continue to use the previous search range definition(s).
NOTES: This information is stored and will be used until changed.
To exit and NOT save changes: Press <Esc>.
To exit and save changes: Press <F7>.
[REGISTRATION FORM]
PURPOSE: To let you register your copy of SeedMaster.
ENTER: Please enter the information requested. After you are finished,
the registration form will print. (Make sure your printer is
on, etc.) Fill out the rest of the form and send to the
address at the top of the form.
NOTES: THANK YOU!
[EXIT HELP]
PURPOSE: To prevent you from accidentally exiting SeedMaster.
ENTER: Press <Enter> to continue and exit SeedMaster.
Press <Esc> to return to SeedMaster, or press <Tab> to move
the highlight to the CANCEL box, and then press <Enter>.
