3 Q. Is there another one during the course of the day or not?
4 A. Yes.

6 Q. What time would that be?
7 A. Sorry, it would generally be between 3.00 and half past
8 3 because the night manager comes in at 4 o'clock. When he
9 takes over the restaurant as a shift manager, he would
10 ensure that everything was OK for him to take over.

12 Q. Two small matters, Mr. Stump -- it is my fault, I passed
13 over it -- I think you said that the dust cart was
14 introduced in the summer of last year, 1994; is that
15 right?
16 A. Yes.

18 Q. What was the reason why the dust cart was introduced in
19 substitution simply for the man or the woman with the
20 tongs?
21 A. It was much more efficient, it was much easier for a
22 person to complete a trash walk. Sometimes when they
23 completed a trash walk they could not fit all the rubbish
24 into one bin liner. This one had two compartments, so they
25 could store two trash liners inside that. It was easier to
26 push. They did not have to carry a bag with them. Also,
27 it was more visible, because one of the problems was the
28 local residents could not see a trash walk being completed
29 so a trash cart would show that we were completing those.

31 Q. I was going to ask you that in a minute, but I will ask it
32 now. In all the time that you have been running the Kings
33 Road McDonald's (which is from June 1993) has there ever
34 been a time, so far as you are aware, when there have not
35 been any trash walks by McDonald's?
36 A. Except in exceptional circumstances.

38 Q. What would be exceptional circumstances?
39 A. If there was a thunder storm or if -- we did complete
40 them into the late hours after that, after -----

42 Q. I want to come to that in a moment. But has there been a
43 time when there were none at all except in exceptional
44 circumstances like thunder storms, or something like that?
45 A. To my knowledge, no.

47 Q. What time do you close, I should ask that first?
48 A. At midnight.

50 Q. Was there a time when there were trash walks quite close up
51 to closing time?
52 A. There was, yes.

54 Q. When did they stop, these late night trash walks?
55 A. We experienced problems that the staff were not happy
56 to go out at night-time in the dark.

59 A. For their own safety. We never experienced a problem
60 with anyone been threatened or attacked but they did
