Day 072 - 12 Jan 95 - Page 20

another rough idea for, say, summer?
       A. After 6 p.m.?

  Q. Yes.
       A. At a guess it would be -- at the moment we are, we
would do approximately 15 per cent.

  Q. 15 per cent after 6 p.m.?
       A. That is a stab in the dark; it is not an accurate
       estimate.

  Q. What about during the summer?
       A. Slightly higher but not too much higher.

  Q. 20, 30?
       A. 18 to 20, approximately.

  Q. 18 to 20?
       A. Again that is an estimate.

  Q. Is that likely to be mostly take-away or is that mostly eat
       in?
       A. The figures that we get, the percentages in take-away
and eat-in are for the whole day. The figures are not
split up into individual hours or periods of the day.

  Q. So there is not a kind of noticeable pattern of after
6 o'clock most people eat in or eat out or anything like
that? It just follows the pattern for the rest of the day?
       A. At a logical guess it would probably be a high
percentage of take-away because between 11.00 and 12.00 it
is take-away only. So, for the night-time period it
probably would be higher but, on average, I would say it
was roughly equal to the day-time. I would not say there
was any significant increase in take-away or eat in.

  Q. You said that the people doing the trash walks have a
environment/index.html">litter picking device. You said they do not pick up
cigarette ends because they are too small. Is that
       generally what they do? They only pick up the large items;
they do not bother with the smaller items?
       A. Well, they would pick up straw wrappers and other small
items of environment/index.html">litter, but it is generally cigarette ends because
when they are wet they fall apart for a start and it is
       quite hard to pick up.

  Q. So they pick up things like salt wrappers and things like
       that, the condiment packaging?
       A. Yes.

  Q. They would pick up small things?
       A. Yes.

  Q. How long does it take on average to complete the trash
       walk?
       A. The shorter one or the morning one?

  Q. The shorter one.
       A. 10 minutes, approximately.
