cleaned roughly monthly. They are machine washable so it
is quite easy to clean them.

  Q. In the main, in the winter, do the staff actually go out
wearing these coats or do they go out wearing their own
       coats?
       A. I would say the majority go out wearing their own
       coats.

  Q. Have you asked them why they do that?
       A. Yes, as I said before, a lot of them expressed their
preference to wearing their own coats. There was no reason
why; they just decided that they would be more
comfortable. I think a lot of crew members, or some crew
members, there is a slight embarrassment factor, I think.

  Q. What for being identified with McDonald's?
       A. No, by being seen picking up rubbish. That is what my
personal -- that is what I have heard some people saying.
They do not like to be seen picking up rubbish.

  Q. Are gloves provided for this job?
       A. No, we do not have gloves at the moment.

  Q. Because some environment/index.html">litter can be pretty mucky, can it not, not
       very pleasant to pick up?
       A. We bought the environment/index.html">litter pickers so they would not have to
       use their hands.

  Q. But the environment/index.html">litter pickers, can they pick up things like straws
       and condiment packets?
       A. Yes.

  Q. They can.
       A. And there is also a brush and dustpan if they need it.

  Q. Why does the store not provide coats, individual coats, so
that they would not have to, you know, share the same
coat? Some people do not like sharing the same clothes, so
        .....
       A. Well, we have a lot of staff working for our
restaurants, so the cost element would be quite
       prohibitive.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If that were done you would have to provide a
separate coat for every individual ---
       A. Yes, I think that is ......

  Q. -- part-time member of staff?
       A. Yes, and we have at the moment approximately 84 staff,
so the cost would be quite high. So, the option of
offering them the opportunity of wearing their own coat
       would obviously alleviate this problem.

MS. STEEL: Why are not gloves provided?
       A. If the staff expressed an opinion that they would like
to have gloves, then I would buy some gloves. There is
some gloves in the store for the delivery team.

  Q. For the people who work in the freezers?
