Day 101 - 10 Mar 95 - Page 14

Valley processing plant in Orleon which comes from chickens
which have not been grown within the Sun Valley system, but
comes from other suppliers altogether who do not operate
the Sun Valley system or are not part of the Sun Valley
system, but provide raw meat to Orleon which Sun Valley
then process. It does not come into this country, but it
goes to McDonald's in other countries?
       A. Yes, that is correct.

MS. STEEL: What do you know about those other chicken
       suppliers?
       A. I personally have never visited any of them. I do not
know a great deal about them, obviously.

  Q. You do not know the names of them or anything like that?
       A. Only from what I have seen on the sheets here.
Obviously, Sun Valley visit these suppliers in the same way
that they would and impose the same restrictions and
controls that they would on their own farms -- sorry, they
are not farms, they are boning rooms or slaughter house.

  Q. They buy from the slaughterhouses, from other
       slaughterhouses?
       A. They buy -- you would have to ask someone from Sun
       Valley that information.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. This may be a topic you would like to
raise with Dr. Pattison on Monday.

MS. STEEL: I will do, yes. (To the witness): But you have not
made any enquiries about that, about where they are getting
them from, what kind of conditions they are kept in, all
       that kind of thing?
       A. Personally, I have not been to see any of them, no.

  Q. Do you know whether anyone in your department has?
       A. I would think if nobody from my department has, then
certainly my opposite numbers in those respective countries
       would have visited those facilities.

  Q. You would think that but you do not actually know that?
       A. I cannot say that, as a matter of fact.

  Q. You mentioned about a bone or a foreign object detector
that was similar to the X-ray machine at the entrance of
       the court?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do all the products go through that, or is that a sample
       test?
       A. All the finished products go through that, yes.

  Q. All of them would?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: You said that you do a once a month check on local
stores -- well, on a local store?
       A. On?

  Q. To check products?
