Day 128 - 24 May 95 - Page 08

are burns or not, but when we have looked previously, we
certainly find a lot more burns in accident books than you
would in these RIDDOR accidents, because a lot more minor
burns are caused than serious ones.

  Q. But you do not actually produce any statistics from this
       database, or what?
       A. That is what this is based on.

  Q. So why is there not a category of burns?
       A. It is not a general sort of information that we would
       print off.

  Q. Are you not interested in burns?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Is it not something that is relevant to have statistics on,
       and keep an eye on?
       A. We do occasionally formulate the statistics; it was not
       in this package.

  Q. This was part of the presentation to who, did you say?
       A. It was the, well, the UK part of the board.

  Q. To the UK part of the board?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So who would that include?
       A. That would be Paul Preston, Andrew Taylor and the other
       Vice Presidents.

  Q. And all the other UK Vice Presidents?
       A. The ones that are members of the board, the executive
       ones, yes.

  Q. What was the rest of this presentation?
       A. It was just a summary of the progress we made on safety
       to the end of 1993.

  Q. Do you have similar charts to those on sheet 4 and sheet 5
       relating to -- 1992 is missed out -- 1990?
       A. Not 1990, no, and 1992, because part of that was my
maternity, there was a hitch with the database. That is
why we do not have complete statistics for that year.

  Q. So which was the first year you started collecting
       statistics on accidents?
       A. As soon as I was appointed in 1990, but we did not have
a full year, so the first full year was 1991. The
information was incomplete for 1992 and, therefore, 1993
       was the next full year.

  Q. You said that there had been less slips and falls because
of the introduction of different floor tiles?
       A. We think that is one of the reasons, yes.

  Q. Were you aware of an accident involving Melanie O'Riordan?
       A. I know I have seen a witness statement from her, but
I cannot remember the specifics of accident.
