Day 155 - 14 Jul 95 - Page 19
other things as well; it was not their only job?
A. No, it was like two, three hours delivery, then they
would take a break and then work a few hours on the floor.

Q. Are you, or were you, conscious, Mr. Giardina, that
slippery floors can cause accidents?
A. Yes, I am.

Q. What was your policy with regard to that possibility when
you were at Seven Sisters?
A. First of all, they were told on the first day of their
orientation that you cannot have non-slip, well, you have
to have non-slip shoes. If a crew member would forget, or
if a crew member has forgotten, that rule or policy, then
they would not be allowed to work.

Q. They would not be allowed to work?
A. No.

Q. Would they be allowed time to go home and get a pair of
slip resistant soles?
A. Yes, that is not a problem.

Q. What about the upper part of the shoe, did you have any
policy about that?
A. They had to be leather, no holes or anything like that.

Q. Not canvas, not sandals, nothing like that. What about
cleaning up patches of liquid, it might be water, it might
be grease that gets spilt in the ordinary course of kitchen
business, what was your policy about that?
A. It had to be done straightaway.

Q. Do you recognise the word "hustle"?
A. Yes.

Q. Is that part of McDonald's ethos or culture?
A. It was then.

Q. It was then?
A. Not so much now.

Q. What did you take it to mean?
A. Walking briskly.

Q. What about running and sliding?
A. It was very difficult in that scenario at Seven Sisters
because the counter was so small. You could not actually
run unless there was one person.

Q. You have worked for McDonald's for 14 years, roughly?
A. That is correct.

Q. In which time, no doubt, you have been into a lot of
restaurants as well as working as a crew member and
Manager?
A. Yes.

Q. Do you have any feeling that the environment in which the
crew work is in any sense significantly dangerous or
