Day 156 - 17 Jul 95 - Page 08

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is what I meant. But if you can stick
with a few questions, do so; if it is unavoidable towards
the end of your cross-examination, then there we are.
(To the witness): As I understand it, one box weighed
       20lbs ---
       A. I cannot remember exact figures.

  Q. -- or thereabouts. The 20lbs figure appears in the
statements somewhere anyway, but would it be difficult for
someone to lift and carry more than one box? What do you
think was the safe and appropriate number of boxes,
regardless of any instructions which were given to lift, we
are talking of burgers now, I think ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- frozen burgers?
       A. I would say a maximum of two, maximum, depending on the
       build of the person.

  Q. So for some people it might be sensible only to carry one?
       A. That is correct, sir.

  Q. You would not like the idea of anyone carrying more than
       two?
       A. That is correct, sir.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, thank you.

MS. STEEL: Were you always overseeing all the unloading and
       loading?
       A. Not me personally all of the time. It would depend on
the actual Shift Manager on that particular day that we got
       deliveries.

  Q. So it would be overseen by one Manager of some sort then?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You have said that there were gloves available to the crew?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. You were aware, obviously, that Mr. Magee said there were
not any gloves available. Where were the gloves kept?
       A. Where the deliveries were entered there was like a
little rack where we used to keep the jackets, the gloves,
by the entrance to where the deliveries arrived.

  Q. Where the jackets were kept?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. They being the environment/index.html">litter patrol jackets?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So there were not any specific jackets for the freezer; I
think you said that they used the environment/index.html">litter ---
       A. That is right, yes.

  Q. -- jackets. Did all the crew in the store have their
       attention drawn to these gloves?
       A. Well, as I have stated previously, once I had achieved
the delivery team that I had, it was the same sort of four,
