Day 162 - 25 Jul 95 - Page 11

side of the toaster is hot as well. Accidentally, they
       could have -----

  Q. Hot enough to burn?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Are all of them like that?
       A. Yes. (Pause)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to have a break now, and you can
check what more you have to ask, if anything.

  MS. STEEL: Yes. Thank you.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Five minutes, then.

                        (Short adjournment)

MS. STEEL: Just on the rap session, you said it was not
typical, it was very quiet. Is that based on the fact
that, from what we see on the film, it appeared to be
       fairly short?
       A. It is quieter. The crew members have not said as much
as they normally do say about a certain topic. For
example, on the Managers, they would have said more; about
the performance reviews, they would have said more; and all
of them would have been involved, instead of the one
person, one person quietly saying very few words about it.

  Q. What I meant was, I do not know, but it may be the case
that actually the rap session was longer but only the more
kind of interesting parts were shown on the programme?
       A. I cannot -----

  Q. And if that was the case -- what I am getting at is, are
you saying that they do not seem like they are saying much
because there is not much -- because it seems to be a very
short rap session, from the programme?
       A. From what I have seen, it does not look, it does
       not -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is not the impression I am getting, that
not as much as actually being said during the bit -----
       A. That is correct.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I mean, there were pauses, were there not?
There was one young man, and then a second, who said much
more than anyone else. The picture I have at the moment --
supported by the evidence -- is just what I would expect,
that when there are cameras there some people may come
forward, but others are just going to stay in their shells.

MS. STEEL: You have never been to a rap session with those
crew, though, have you, being the Manager?
       A. I could not, because it is my restaurant.

  Q. Right. So you do not actually know how they normally
       behave in a rap session?
       A. No, I do not, but, from the report I get, I know that
lots of comments have been given.
