Day 185 - 07 Nov 95 - Page 13

  Q. Right. But it was at the point when you were told that
certification had been applied for that you started
worrying about the consequences of your having signed the
union card; you started worrying that the store might be
closed or that you might lose your job?
       A. I was worried, period, that I had signed a card, but
I was not worried about, you know, what McDonald's might
do. I did not -- I was not worried they might close the
store down. I was not even sure -- I am still not sure if
they can do that or not. I was worried the whole time, but
now that I had asked for my card back and she had said
"no", it just made it worse, because I did not know what
I had signed or what would be happening.

  Q. Your intervention letter, if you could just look at that
for a moment, the second paragraph, the second sentence or
third sentence, I think it is -- it starts right in the
       middle with a word deleted.
       A. Which one? "I went there", or -----

  Q. The sentence after that, ".....did not inform us".
       A. OK.

  Q. That is Sarah?
       A. I am not sure. It could be either Sarah or Louie.
I am pretty sure I put Sarah

  Q. "... did not inform us that we could lose the benefits we
have and what would happen if a union did come in"?
       A. Right.

  Q. What were you referring to there?
       A. She did not inform us that we would have to negotiate
for the benefits we have already, so we could lose the
benefits because we had to negotiate for them.

  Q. That was what would happen, not what could happen, that you
       would lose the benefits?
       A. No, no. They did not inform us that we would lose the
benefits; that we could lose the benefits we had and what
would happen if the union did come in, What would happen if
a union came in. We did not know that, you know, there
would have to be a contract made. But from when I left
Sarah's house, what I understood is, a union came in and
you automatically got everything that they said; not that
you would have to start negotiating, not that there was a
contract that had to be made, nothing like that. I do not
remember a contract even being mentioned in that
       conversation.

  Q. So when did you become aware of a contract?
       A. Not until the very, very end. Like, I knew about the
negotiations, but I do not remember when I learned about
the contract. But it was, I would say, just before the
vote, like the beginning of February, or maybe. I do not
know, I cannot remember. I knew about the negotiations
before I knew about the contract, though.

  Q. This is 8th October, before the beginning of February?
