Day 197 - 07 Dec 95 - Page 19

MR. JUSTICE BELL: At the bottom it has: "Reduced crew
turnover to less than 220 per cent". Do you know what it
was running at at the time?
     A. Offhand, I should imagine round about the 250, 260 per
cent. It tended to run at that type of figure.

MR. MORRIS: Why was turnover so high at -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not ask that again. We have had an
answer to it about 20 minutes ago.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, sorry, page 65. I do not know if I need to
ask anything about this really. Could you just sum up the
     situation on page 65?
     A. At this time we had actually had a change in
Supervisor. Mark Davies had been promoted. New
Supervisor was Neil Skehel. This relates to an incident
when one of my Assistant Managers was unable to account
for loss in the safe of £87. Basically, what he is
stating here is that a change in procedures that were
already in place to make sure that it did not actually
     happen again.

Q. But it was not your fault?
     A. It was not -- it was something that happened on the
shift run by one of my other managers. It is just laying
down new procedures to be put in place.

Q. Then page 66, this seems to be the same date as the day
you gave your resignation letter, but this one is not
signed. What is this piece of paper on page 66? Have
     you ever seen it before?
     A. The first time I saw it was when I opened the mail
that you sent me with this in, so I was quite surprised
when I found it in there. I had no knowledge of it; I had
never seen it before that date. It also relates to
performance reviews that I had never received. On the
     date in question -----

Q. Sorry, which performance reviews have you not received?
     A. It said one in May and one on July 17th. I have no
knowledge of either of those. In fact, July 17th was a
day I was on holiday, because I gave in my notice after
two weeks holiday which was 18th. It is here telling me
that I had a review on a day when I was actually on
     holiday.

Q. So, as far as you know, this letter was never sent to you
     or given to you?
     A. I have never seen this letter or the reviews that it
     relates to.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It has not been signed, so .....

MR. MORRIS: Did Neil Skehel ever do a performance review with
     you?
     A. No.

Q. Never?
