Day 245 - 07 May 96 - Page 04

Q. There are 8 appendices. Have you read its appendices
recently?
A. I have.

Q. Some of that is material put out by your company, and some
is material which you say emanates from the Defendants or
their supporters?
A. That is correct.

Q. Are the contents of your statement true?
A. They are.

Q. Thank you, Mr. Preston. Please remain there.

Cross-examined by the Defendants:

MS. STEEL: Just before we start, can I hand up a letter which
was missed out of the bundle. It might be in other peoples
but it was not in mine, so I must have missed it out. It
is supposed it be in the middle of tab 10 after the first
letter to Mr. Livingstone in the bundle that I served on
Thursday or Friday last week. (Handed)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: After the first statement?

MS. STEEL: It goes directly after the letter of 6th February in
tab 10.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you.

MR. MORRIS: Have you been following the trial since you started
giving your evidence?
A. Yes.

Q. Have you been reading the transcripts of the evidence?
A. I read some of them.

Q. Some of them, right. I am going to go through what I would
call lies put out by McDonald's Corporation or McDonald's
UK and see what you think.

Are you aware that McDonald's has used beef suppliers in
some countries, for example in Costa Rica, on land that was
formally rainforest?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I am going to intervene now partly because
the question is improper but mostly because Mr. Morris has
already started playing to the gallery. He cannot put a
question like that since there is not a fair record to
sustain what he has said.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is in dispute as to whether it was formerly
rainforest or not.

MS. STEEL: No, it has been admitted.

MR. MORRIS: It has been admitted. The only question is how
long ago it was.
