Day 260 - 11 Jun 96 - Page 17

  Q. Then you go on to say: "It was pointed out that the views
expressed by him were his own and not those of the group in
       general."

In a similar way to the point we have just covered, where
you say that not everybody in the group is interested in
the same things, would you agree that, generally, in that
line, that was the way the group operated, that people
expressed their own views and they were not necessarily the
views of the whole group and not necessarily the whole
       group was interested in them?
       A. Yes, I would agree with that.

  Q. It goes on to say: "This fact seemed to be important to
       several of those present."
       A. Yes.

  Q. It was something that people felt strongly about?
       A. Yes, indeed.

MR. MORRIS: Just a couple of things on 17th May. You said at
the bottom: "Everyone seemed to be friendly enough"?
       A. This is -----

  Q. The very last line that has not been blanked out.
       A. Yes.

  Q. That accords with your general view, does it, of
London Greenpeace meetings -- people generally friendly?
       A. Yes, yes.

MS. STEEL: On that point, they were pretty informal meetings?
       A. They were very informal meetings.

MR. MORRIS: The last thing I was going to bring up was that you
pointed out -- I think it comes up a bit later on, but we
might as well point it out here -- you suggested a title --
this is top of page 5 -- you suggested a title for the next
meeting. This is your first meeting you had been to?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Next public meeting, yes? So you suggested the title
"Anarchism versus Socialism: Is there a difference?"
       A. Yes.

  Q. "To my surprise, this idea was accepted. It was of interest
to discover that this is the actual title used."

That comes up a bit later, when there is some dispute about
whether that should be the meeting. But people were happy
       to accept that?
       A. As a suggestion, yes.

  Q. As a suggestion. You said you were surprised. Is that
because it was your first meeting, nobody knew you, but
people seemed to accept you straightaway?
       A. It was my first meeting. I did not know really what
was expected of me, considering the brief that I had been
given; and I thought I must make some form of contribution,
