Day 272 - 02 Jul 96 - Page 05
of the fact sheet which was around in circulation then on
that day, and if there would have been copies of that
there, that has got the same cover as our version, as the
London Greenpeace fact sheet, but it is not the same
leaflet.

Q. Did Veggies people sometimes attend pickets of Head Office?
A. Yes, they did, they did used to come down from time to
time. They may have brought some of their leaflets with
them.

Q. Okay, if we move on:

"In the office there was a separate tray for McDonald's
enquiries and these letters were answered by a small
'subgroup' of one or two people who were particularly
involved in the campaign. Dave and Helen were never part
of this group."
A. Yes, that is true.

Q. "London Greenpeace was never just an anti-McDonald's
group. It was always involved in a wide range of campaigns
depending on who was coming to meetings. Two major
campaigns of this period were against the IMF World Bank
and State Borders?
A. Yes, that is true. Those two campaigns, I would say,
were just as important in the nineteen eighty -- certainly
the 1988-90 period as the McDonald's campaign was.

Q. Right.

"Dave and Helen were not heavily involved in the
anti-McDonald's campaign. Neither played any role in
planning or organising the 1989 anti-McDonald's fayre,
extent turning up on the day to help (as did a great many
people). In 1990 it was decided to rename it the London
Greenpeace Fayre because we wanted to get away from being
seen as a single issue 'anti-McDonald's' group"?
A. Yes.

Q. "Both Dave and Helen were in favour of this."
A. Yes, that is true. I mean, the important thing there
is that being seen as a single issue anti-McDonald's group,
we never were a single issue anti-McDonald's group, but the
anti-McDonald's campaign of the mid 80's did take off and,
as a result of that, other people did associate us as being
an anti-McDonald's group, but, as I explained earlier, we
never were, and that was something we did like to point out
at meetings, and Dave in particular always did.

Q. "By 1989-90 we met only once a month at Endsleigh Street.
These were called public meetings but often there was no
'public' there due to the meetings not being publicised.
There was normally a selection of leaflets put in the
centre of the table by people attending the meetings. What
leaflets were put there depended on which people were at
the meetings. The number of people at meetings fluctuated
wildly and were some who were only loosely involved in the
group --"
A. Sorry "there was".
