everyone present free to contribute. Of course, people new
to the group did not have much to say but there were often
several people who played an active part. The group had no
'leaders' and the agenda was always passed around so
anyone there could put down what they wanted to be
       discussed"?
       A. Yes, that is completely true.

  Q. That is your signature at the bottom of the page, is it?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And you are happy for this to be taken as your evidence?
       A. I am, yes.

  Q. I think the easiest way to do the next part is - could
someone get the witness, maybe you could get it, the pale
blue file that is right at the end on the top row which
contains the private investigator's notes. Could you just
get that down please. On the left-hand side at the end.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, right at the end. It is a bright blue
one with a white spine. Straight in front of you now.
       A. That one?

  Q. Yes, that is right.

MS. STEEL: Okay. If you could turn to the notes of 2nd October
1989. They should be page 1.
       A. Yes, I can see them.

  Q. You have had a chance to look through at least some of the
       notes, have you not?
       A. Yes, I have, yes.

  Q. Have you read the notes of this meeting, do you know?
       A. Yes.

  Q. This is about the Hackney and Islington Animal Rights
       meeting?
       A. Yes.

  Q. On 2nd October 1989?
       A. Yes.

  Q. This might seem like a bit of an obvious question, but was
       this a London Greenpeace event?
       A. No, it was not a London Greenpeace event. It was a
Hackney and Islington Animal Rights public meeting.

  Q. Right. Were you actually nominated or delegated or
anything to speak on behalf of London Greenpeace?
       A. No. I would not, you know, I would not have been
nominated, no, or anything like that. I mean, I would --
what would have happened is that by 1989 I had been
       responsible for London Greenpeace's anti-McDonald's
activity for over two years. I would have simply said, you
know, said I was going to go and speak. I would have
mentioned it, perhaps, at a meeting, a London Greenpeace
meeting, and it would have been left to me by people in the
group to do because people simply trusted me. I mean, the
