Day 272 - 02 Jul 96 - Page 12
mean, as I remember it, the meeting was about the future of
the group, what sort of campaigns we were going to be
running in the next year or so, and also to discuss whether
or not there was going to be a 1990 fayre, because there
was some disagreement about that in the group as well. And
no, it was not a McDonald's campaign meeting.

Q. Right. Actually if we look at page 56, Mr. Pocklington
says that the picket outside the new McDonald's in Chapel
Market was by Hackney and Islington Animal Rights?
A. Yes.

Q. And that information came from you. That is correct, what
is written there, is it?
A. Yes, it is.

Q. Right.
A. I mean, there are a lot of inaccuracies, particularly
bad inaccuracies, I think, in Allan Claire's notes of those
meetings, just from having read them.

Q. Right. And Mr. Pocklington says, about the meeting on the
25th:

"It would concern the future of the group and plans for the
coming year, as well as strategy concerning further
anti-McDonald's plan in the form of another fayre".

Was that your recollection, that the meeting was about the
future of the group and that would obviously include some
discussion about anti-McDonald's things?
A. Yes. I mean, I think at that meeting I think I
mentioned again, as I was often doing at that time, that I
was planning to produce a pamphlet, booklet on McDonald's.
That would have been discussed by me and I think there
would have been a discussion, I think there was a
discussion about the fayre, whether we should go ahead with
one. And I think that is when it was decided to call it
the London Greenpeace Fayre. And this again, my
recollection, accords with the general idea of the group
then, that we wanted to get away from being seen as a
single issue anti-McDonald's group. Not that we ever were,
but as even being seen by other people as being one. You
know, there were people in the group then strongly arguing
that the McDonald's campaign should be laid to rest.

Q. And who was that?
A. Well, one of them was Dave Morris, definitely. I
mean, even before that he was saying it, but even more
strongly by then. And, I mean, even I was not arguing that
the group should go full tilt against McDonald's. There was
no need to, because other groups were doing it anyway, like
Hackney and Islington. I only wanted to just produce a more
up-to-date booklet, that is all.

Q. If we go to page 630 of the notes, this is 18th January
1990.
A. Yes.

Q. On the first page it says:
