Day 277 - 10 Jul 96 - Page 19

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: It is not mega-important, but it is just that on
       page 131 of the notes--

MR. MORRIS: Can you say who that is?
       A. It is Brian Bishop, 16th August in No. 4. I mean, I
said does it matter if I raised this when I was asking Mr
Bishop, but it is just to say that what is written there is
actually completely incorrect and it was not a mutual
friend. What it was was that a whole animal rights group
in the local area had been pulled in and questioned and
they had all been released without charge, and it was not
-- I mean, I don't know anybody down there as a friend, so
       that is just completely incorrect.

The other thing which I would just like to point out
in respect of that is that he says that it was a
conversation between me and Paul, and yet he says "it was
generally felt that as..." -- and then it goes on. And if
I just make the point that where he says "generally felt
throughout the notes...", I mean, if he can apply that to
just a conversation between two people I just think it
gives some indication about whether or not things were
actually generally felt or whether they were just, you
know, the opinion of one person.

But also that the last part of the sentence is wrong
anyway, it was not because of the person's mother it was
because the whole group had been questioned and they had
all been released without any charges. So, sorry, that was
all I wanted to say on that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Do you have any more questions
       Mr. Morris?

MR. MORRIS: I don't think so. Just give me 10 more seconds.
       No further questions. Thank you.

                 Cross-examined by Mr. Rampton

  Q. Miss Steel, I expect you have counted up the number of
London Greenpeace events or meetings which you attended
starting on 16th October 1989 and ending on 20th September
1990. Have you counted them up according to the notes we
       have got?
       A. Actually, I have not, although I have got actually, a
chart of the ones which I attended, which are the ones
which I drew up. I can count them if you want me to.

  Q. No, I was wondering if you would accept from me, I was
wondering if you could take it from me -- we can all count
them later on in the case -- that excluding 14th June,
which you say you were not at, and I am bound to say I am
inclined to accept on behalf of my clients, that you
       attended something like 33?
       A. That sounds quite possible.

  Q. And that of those 33, 23 had some kind of McDonald's
element about them to a greater or lesser extent?
