What, are people born under any other system than capitalism all of a sudden stupid? Are they born without brains? Can there be no other motive than profit in doing things? You're saying that when Bell, Babbage, Einstein, etc., were making their respective experiments all they were thinking about was the cash.

People in non-capitalist countries do actually get paid you know and they also get rewarded for showing outstanding ability.

Next you're going to tell me that all the scientific inventions made by the Soviets were actually made by you Americans! That the MIR space station is actually American! You know, with what the CIA has been up to in the past I wouldn't be surprised.....

Money (greed) is a powerful motivator especially in a society that is so materialistic. "I think that my talents and abilities, that 1/3 of my life, and that all the stress I'll be under is worth a house in the suburbs, a nice car, 3 T.Vs, liposuction at 30, and a week in the Bahamas every year." (This is assuming that money is a means to an end. Looking at the amount of cash some people have I can't see how they could use it)

What about an alternative.. "I'm not too worried that I don't earn 3 x times as much as Joe Bloggs because I get a lot of satisfaction out of my job anyway and I know that me taking a massive salary would put pressure on what all the guys below me get paid." What has always bemused me about capitalism is the fact that these head honchos get paid these huge salaries AS WELL as being in a position where they can find self-fulfillment, self-empowerment, and job satisfaction. While you've got the factory linesman who gets nothing out of his job and gets paid pretty much nothing. Where's the fairness in that?
