Hummingbird eXceed X Development Toolkits
Hummingbird's X Development Toolkits allow you to develop, port, and run X Windows applications,
right on your personal computer. In essence, these X Development Toolkits provide your personal
computers with a workstation-like functionality, by transforming your PC into a client-host
and server, all at the same time. Hummingbird's X Development products are available for
the Microsoft Windows, Windows NT, and IBM OS/2 operating systems.
Advantages of Hummingbird X Development Toolkits:
- Effective use of PC resources:
For example, programmers and developers can port their X Windows applications from other
operating environments, such as UNIX and VMS, to the Windows, Windows NT, or OS/2 platforms.
With X applications resident on the personal computer, the PC becomes another host platform
capable of distributing applications across the network.
- Better use of workstations:
Programmers can develop and test an X program on the PC before compiling it on a
host system. This reduces heavy network traffic and frees up often scarce X workstations.
- More effective use of time and increased productivity:
Development can now take place on a PC away from the workplace and outside of regular work hours.
- Reduce the investment in purchasing workstations:
Smaller businesses and departments with restricted budgets can now do application development
on a more readily available PC.
- Teach X:
Universities and educational institutions that typically have a large number of PCs can
now teach X Windows on a PC rather than on expensive X workstations. Students can continue
their studies, on or off campus, on more accessible PCs.
Developing X Clients on Windows NT
eXceed 4-XDK for Windows NT

or Alpha platforms. Local X support permits X clients to be started and displayed locally,
or remotely on another X server in the network. eXceed 4-XDK for Windows NT includes the OSF/Motif Toolkit,
a library of development tools, including Xlib, Xt intrinsics, Xaw, and Xmu, and provides
users with sample applications and sample source. This X Development Toolkit also includes
Hummingbird's eXceed 4 for Windows NT PC X server, for full access to X Windows applications across
the network.
Hummingbird's X Development Toolkit for Windows NT features:
