The SurfinCheck database files, which include all the security profiles, should be backed up periodically for safeguarding purposes.
SurfinCheck keeps most of the information it uses in the ODBC database. This information includes the security policy definitions, the Users and Groups definition and the full security activity database (which is used for both the log and the reports). Therefore, in order to avoid losing such critical information, maintenance functions should be run periodically on the database.
The database file (C:\Program Files\Finjan\Database\SFGDatabase) should be backed up periodically (preferably on a daily basis) so as to allow for a reconstruction of the database in case of a corruption of the database. Typically, several backup images are saved, comprising the database file content at different times so that it may be reconstructed back in time (i.e. you may need a copy of the database as it was a few months ago if the corruption of the database had originally occurred that long ago).
If a client failure occurs during the commit process, the affected database can be corrupted and needs to be repaired.
To repair the database click the ODBC32 driver icon
in the Control Panel to open the driver setup dialog box, then
click the Repair button.
Select the file (C:\Program Files\Finjan\Database\SFGDatabase.mdb),
and click OK.
When repairing a password-protected file, a password and user id must be entered in the Advanced Options dialog box. The password and user id should be removed after the repair.
For more information about database repair, refer to the Help file in the ODBC dialog box.
To perform data compaction on the SurfinCheck database,
click the ODBC32 driver icon in the Control Panel to open the
driver setup dialog box, then click the Compact button. From
the Database to Compact From dialog box, select the file
(C:\Program Files\Finjan\Database\SFGDatabase.mdb), and
click OK. From the Database to Compact Into dialog box, select
the file and path, select the version of the resulting compacted
file and a sort order, and then click OK. The name of the file
to compact into can be the same as the file to be compacted.
When compacting a password-protected file, a password and user id must be entered in the Advanced Options dialog box. The password and user id should be removed after the compression.
For more information about database repair, refer
to the Help file in the ODBC dialog box.
