SDeflector

This is a Space Warp that serves as a spherical deflector of particles.

Basic Parameters

All settings for the SDeflector are contained in this one rollout.

Particle Bounce Area

Contains settings that determine how the deflector affects the bound particles.

Bounce: Determines the speed with which particles bounce off of the deflector. At 1.0, the particles bounce at the same speed as they approach. At 0, they don’t deflect at all.

Variation: The amount by which each particle may vary from the Bounce setting.

Chaos: The amount of variation off of the perfect angle of reflection (found when Chaos is set to 0.0). 100% induces a variation in reflection angle of up to 90 degrees

Inherit Vel: This is the Velocity Inheritance setting. When the value is greater than 0, the motion of the deflector affects the particles as well as the other settings. For example, if you want to animate the SDeflector passing through a passive array of particles, you must turn up this value in order to affect the particles.

Display Icon Area

Contains controls affecting the display of the icon.

Diameter: Affects the diameter of the SDeflector icon. Note that this also alters the affect of the deflection, since the particles bounce off of the perimeter of the icon. Note that the scale of the icon also affects the particles.

How To

To set up the SDeflector:

  1. Click the SDeflector button in the Space Warp portion of the Create panel.
  2. Drag in a viewport to create the spherical icon.
  3. Note: Because the particles bounce off of the perimeter of the spherical icon, the size of the icon actually affects the particle deflection.

  4. Bind a particle system to the SDeflector icon.
  5. Position the SDeflector icon to interrupt the particle stream.
  6. Adjust the SDeflector parameters, as necessary.
