SAP DB: The Enterprise Open-Source Database

Jg Hoffmeister ist seit 1997 bei der SAP AG fr den Development Support und die Portierung von SAP DB zust舅dig, eine Aufgabe die er seit 1993 schon fr ADABAS D in Verbindung mit SAP Solutions innehatte. Insgesamt arbeitet er seit 1985 in dem Datenbankteam, das SAP DB und alle seine Vorg舅ger gebaut und betreut hat.

SAP DB is SAP's relational database system, which is specifically designed for and works best with SAP solutions.
Since October 2000, SAP DB has been available free of charge from SAP. As of April 2001, the source code and documentation of the new version, SAP DB 7.3, can also be downloaded from the SAP DB web site free of charge.

SAP DB is the only Open Source SQL database that has proved to be suitable for large production installations.

This presentation will demonstrate the motivation for "going Open Source", and highlight some of the benefits of SAP DB, such as its simple and intuitive administration and hence its low cost of ownership.
