Zusammenfassung
The talk shows why monitoring production systems is important in today's environment. It introduces open-source tools to perform this task, especially netsaint/nagios and shows the steps needed to get a working monitoring system based on Linux and BSD. The talk continues with an introduction to the modular structure of netsaint and presents some nice tricks and caveats as well the techniques used to perform distributed and indirect monitoring behind firewalls. Other topics include external storage of data in a database including modifications of the netsaint source to hook into external programs and applications.
