1870     Alumni Association founded on July 28.
1898     First branch—called chapters today—begins in Pittsburgh.
1911     First organized class reunion held.
              First international “club” formed in Panama.
1914     Penn State Alumni News—The Penn Stater magazine today—begins publication.
1920     First Homecoming, then called “Harvest Days.”
1938     The Football Letter begins.
1947     First Alumni Association-sponsored Alumni Tour.
1951     “Alumni Institute” lectures begin during reunion weekend.
               Distinguished Alumni program begins.
1967     Free “introductory memberships” to graduates started.
1973     Alumni Fellow and Honorary Alumni awards established.
1981     Lion Ambassadors student-alumni corps begins.
1986     First Teaching Fellow Award recognizing teaching excellence.
1987     Alumni Association reaches 100,000-member mark.
1994     “Huddle with the Faculty” fall lecture series begins.
1995     Becomes largest dues-paying alumni association in the world.
1996     FastStart student mentoring program begins.
2001     “Margin for Excellence” endowment for philanthropic gifts to the University
               established with $6.5 million.
               Hintz Family Alumni Center opens at University Park.
2002     Grassroots Network established.
2004     Alumni Association reaches 150,000-member mark.
2005     Alumni Achievement Award begins.
2007     The Penn Stater named country’s No. 1 university magazine.
2008     Alumni Walk dedicated.
2009     Sustaining Life Member Program established.
