Why was the data set created?

To delineate the centerpoint locations of and primary commodity produced by oil and gas fields in Open File Report 97-470I "Map Showing Geology, Oil and Gas Fields, and Geological Provinces of Europe including Turkey," which is being compiled as a reference for the U.S. Geological Survey's World Energy Project assessment of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources of the world. This coverage is used to produce a map and an Adobe Acrobat Portable Document of the map to be published on CD-ROM. This data set is provided for general reference only.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

A point coverage is generated in Arc/Info using latitude and longitude coordinates of field centerpoints from database.
    Date: 25-Sep-2000 (process 4 of 5)
Point coverage is clipped to the current extent in Arc/Info
    Date: 25-Sep-2000 (process 5 of 5)
Coverage is projected into the current Lambert Conformal Conic projection with the Arc/Info project command.
