The Sapphire/Web State Server

Sapphire/Web includes a State Server which allows you to store, retrieve, and modify state information (strings).

Many aspects of the Sapphire/Web State Server are very similar to those of the various Sapphire/Web Gateway Servers. For all intents and purposes the State Server is, in fact, a Gateway Server. Consult Chapter 8, "Sapphire/Web Gateways", if you need more information about gateways.

To start the gateway do the following:

1. Set the environment variable STATE_HOST on the machine(s) where the server application(s) that will be accessing the state server will run to the name of the machine where the state server process will be running

2. Run the state server program, SaState, on the machine that you have just defined.
To use the state server program, you must include the header file, sacook.h, found in the /include directory of the Sapphire distribution, within your project.
