The Mentalix product line isn't a Mac or PC product that was tweaked and retro-fitted to run on UNIX, but instead is a powerful, full-featured, scanning and imaging solution designed specifically for UNIX.  Mentalix delivers a supporting cast of functionality that complements, completes, and enables imaging solutions across a wide range of markets, including technical and desktop publishing, document imaging, GIS, and scientific applications.

Mentalix's integrated imaging solutions are flexible enough to address all the imaging needs of UNIX users, including those on the Silicon Graphics IRIX platform.  A UNIX user's alternative to Pixel!FX Deluxe is to buy a series of individual components from a variety of different vendors.  This results in inconsistent user interfaces, along with a significant increase in costs associated with training, system maintenance, and separate purchases of individual components.  The flexibility found only in the Pixel!FX Deluxe family, coupled with the common look and feel, allows users to choose the components that meet their exacting needs, all from a single vendor.

Mentalix also offers additional products which enable scanning functionality in third-party products: a Pixel!SCAN Plug-In for Adobe Photoshop, and an Impressario Scan Driver for select scanners.
