AMIGA 1000
==========
I know there are still lots of Amiga 1000s out there ticking away. I
also know that the SCRAM 500 would probably appeal to their owners who
still hold the Amiga 1000 in high regard. Well, the good news is that
the SCRAM 500 does work with the A1000 - but with some reservations.
To plug the SCRAM 500 on an A1000 you basically have to spin it round
180 degrees and sit it on a thick book. This leaves the SCRAM derriere
(SCSI cable end) to the front, and the LEDs flashing off into the wild
blue yonder, only visibly via a mirror. To add insult to injury, the
mouse ports are now somewhat occluded. This is fixed by 2 pairs of 9 pin
D types joined by 4"-5" of ribbon cable.
Nevertheless, many people have successfully married the SCRAM 500 to an
A1000, despite the asthetic setbacks.
It is possible to do a special adapter board which will allow the SCRAM
500 to sit alongside the A1000 (albeit upside down) with the LEDs to the
front. If enough people request this I could do a run of such boards.
Alternatively, some other enterprising person could work out a solution
and make it available.
If someone is really keen, they could design a new PCB - using the SCRAM
500 circuit - which suits the A1000 perfectly. Such a board could be
larger than the SCRAM 500 and therefore easier to design. If anyone is
interested in such a project, I will be pleased to help them however I
can.
I don't know how big the disenfranchised A1000 population is, so if you
like, communicate somehow that you want A1000 product support.
