  28.    The DivX 6.1.1 codec represents a performance leap of
  29.    mammoth proportions. Gigantic in fact. One could almost
  30.    go so far as to call it monumental. Gargantuan. A
  31.    colossal performance leap of behemothic proportion
  32.    eclipsing all others in an earth-shattering event never
  33.    before witnessed by human kind. Fear the proportions,
  34.    oh yes, for they are undeniably ... proportionate.

  36.    For five months the DARC team have been locked away deep
  37.    in their secret underground lab optimizing the DivX
  38.    codec, fine tuning every last code routine, testing their
  39.    work on next generation processors and preparing
  40.    for the end of the world. (You know itÆs coming.)

  42.    As a result, the DivX 6.1.1 codec now has full support for
  43.    single CPU, HyperThreaded (HT), SMP and dual core
  44.    processors, achieving up to 250% better encoding
  45.    performance compared to the DivX 6.0 codec on
  46.    cutting-edge hardware, and up to 180% better performance
  47.    for typical desktop computers. There are also two new
  48.    modes dedicated to high speed encoding - both fully
  49.    compatible with certified devices - a brand new one-pass
  50.    quality-based encoding mode that can reduce encoding
  51.    time by half, improved flexibility for HD encoding
  52.    parameters and, of course, much, much more.

  67.    * Full support for single CPU, HyperThreaded (HT), dual
  68.      CPU (SMP), and dual core processors in both the
  69.      encoder and decoder. Encoding performance is vastly
  70.      improved on systems with multiple logical processors,
  71.      while better quality and smoother high definition
  72.      playback is now possible for all DivX HD video.
  73.  
  74.    * Various optimizations have been added for processors
  75.      supporting SSE2 extensions.
  76.  
  77.    * The performance of Extreme Quality and Insane Quality
  78.      modes has been improved allowing you to get production
  79.      quality video in even less time!

  81.    * A new High-performance mode has been created that is a
  82.      whopping 40% faster than Balanced mode in the 6.0
  83.      codec. This mode yields slightly lower compression but
  84.      is perfectly suited to live-capture applications and
  85.      the output will play on certified devices.

  87.    * Fastest mode now achieves much better compression with
  88.      virtually zero performance impact. It is finally
  89.      possible to use this mode to encode directly into a
  90.      DivX video profile with reasonable quality and still
  91.      maintain small file sizes.

  93.    * DivX High Definition profile now allows up to 6Mbps
  94.      average bitrate for crystal clear HD video, even with
  95.      your nose pressed against your 60" HD plasma TV.

  97.    * You can now specify a target quantizer instead of an
  98.      average bitrate during encoding. This new method is
  99.      available in conjunction with DivX encoding profiles,
  100.      and in many cases can be substituted for 2-Pass and
  101.      multipass encoding.

  103.    * The codec now supports Lanczos resize filters for very
  104.      sharp resizing, giving improved video quality.
  105.  
  106.    * Quarter-pixel motion estimation has been enhanced for
  107.      performance and is now available in all modes from
  108.      Balanced through Insane when 'Unconstrained profile'
  109.      is selected. Please remember that using quarter-pixel
  110.      motion estimation (or simply switching to
  111.      Unconstrained profile) means that your videos are
  112.      unlikely to play well in certified devices.

  114.    * The Feedback Window now displays VBV level and has
  115.      variable axis for PSNR plots, making it easy to
  116.      monitor encodes with very high PSNR metric results.
