  43.         Greetings fellow netlanders.

  45.         I have 2 questions tonight:
  46.  
  47. 1. I want to know how to create metafiles that could be printed out with
  48.    programs like OUTPRINT.PRG.  I'm a bit at a loss here and I would greatly
  49.    appreciate some help.  Some sample source in Personal Pascal or C
  50.    would do nicely, if available.  Does GDOS have to be loaded in order to
  51.    do this?  Are there bindings for functions like vm_pagesize() etc or
  52.    do I have to make them up myself?  What has to be put into the intin[]
  53.    and ptsin[] arrays?  Are work stations possible on the ST or do I have
  54.    to stay with virtual workstations?  Is that the way it is done?  These are
  55.    some of the questions I have been asking myself.

  57. 2. Tim Oren wrote a series of articles on GEM programming on the ST.  I saw
  58.    the list on a BBS that has since lost their files and I cannot get at
  59.    the series any longer.  There were around 18-20 articles.  However, I can
  60.    only find the first 11 on the ftp sites that I looked at.  Where are the
  61.    rest of them?  Do that many actually exist or is it just something I'm
  62.    dreaming about?

  64.         If there is any interest and if I can put something together that
  65. actually works, I'll post some sample source here.

  106. Is it the only HD you have connected to your system? If have more than one
  107. HD connected the try disconnecting all of the drives except the one you are
  108. trying to get working. I ran into similiar trouble one time with multiple
  109. drives (actualy multiple controlers/drives), it's been a while so I don't
  110. remember the details but I think it had to do with one drive being formated
  111. with old ICD software and the other (the one I was trying to set as bootable)
  112. formatted with the newer ICD software (V4.xxx).

  137. Well, I figured this out and, instead of killing the article I figured I
  138. should inform the world about this "totally cool" setup.  To be short, the
  139. trick was to get the new version (4.2) of the Unix Windows server as well.
  140. Result:  I am, right now, downloading and typing this message pseudo-
  141. simultaneously.  I HIGHLY recommend this setup!  Get it.  Use it.  It's
  142. awesome.  I'm sorry if this isn't news to everyone, but it must be to some.
  143. The newest version of Unix Windows allows you too execute a child program
  144. such as a CLI as well.  Unfortunately, downloading does stop when you do this.
  145. The slowdown isn't as bad as I thought when downloading either.

  170. It works fine when the uw server is NOT running but Kermit "croaks" (sorry)

  173. I issue the Send or Recieve command from C-Kermit on the Unix side and then
  174. the appropriate Kermit command from Unix windows.  Then, nothing happens with
  175. the exception of an occasional timeout message.  Has anyone gotten this to
  176. work?  This Kermit option excites me.  Right now, though, it's pretty boring.
  177. I assume that this is the newest version of Unixwind.  I just got it from
  178. Terminator today.  Please, ANY and ALL help is appreciated!

  195. I've heard a lot about uw, and it sounds really interesting.  However, the only
  196. version I've seen said it only worked in monochrome.  Is there, by any chance,
  197. a version that runs in color too?  I would really appreciate it if I could
  198. find such a thing.

  216. I ported the BSD host version to a System V system that has the
  217. Wollongong TCP/IP package.

  220. make it somewhat painful to use (a port watcher/reader process which
  221. doubles the input overhead and no XON/XOFF support).  XON/XOFF support
  222. could be approximated with a trade-off between correctness and overhead,

  237. Does anybody know in which directory I need to put the TFM files for Bammi's
  238. Virtex?  Whenever I try to load fonts, it tells me that it can't find them,
  239. even when I include a pathname.  If the default is on F: partition, then I'm
  240. out of luck, since I only have partitions through E:.  Also, I don't have
  241. enough memory to call virtex from a shell, so I can't change the path through
  242. environment variables.  I have no problem with going into the .ttp file and
  243. changing the default pathname with a sector editor, but I haven't had any
  244. luck finding the place to change.  If anybody has any useful suggestions, I
  245. will be eternally grateful.
  246. BTW, Thanks to Bammi for this *incredibly* useful program.  Now that I have
  247. the new showdvi.prg that will work in color, I can really have fun!

  260. Yes, I've had this problem.   The read bit is not set for others.  I just
  261. noticed this about a week ago.  My ST was busted for a month prior to that
  262. so I don't know when the change occured for sure.

  264. I always checked the dates on the atari/new directory also to see if there
  265. was anything "new" to get.  Kind of a bummer that I can't read it now.
