Main Menu Commands
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
L LIST/SELECT FILES:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
USE TO:
1. Review a list of files, sizes, and attributes
residing in the current Drive:\Path.
2. Add File(s) to the Clip Board.
3. Select a file name to be used by the file name
buffer.
4. Delete a file On-The-Fly.
5. Perform a Clip Board move.
HOW TO USE:
Select [ L List Files] by pointing to the option with the

forward and back by pressing [PgUp] and [PgDn]. The number of
files matched to the search mask and their total occupied bytes
is displayed at the bottom of the window.
If you point beyond the boundaries of the window, the cursor
is automatically placed at the top or bottom of the listing. For
example, the quickest way to reach the last file from the first
file listed is to press cursor-up.
SELECTING A FILE NAME:
Select a file name with the high-light select bar and press
[RETURN]. The high-lighted file is entered into the file name
buffer. The buffer is used for default settings in other FileBoss
commands.
AVAILABLE SECONDARY COMMANDS:
1. Delete Files:
You can delete any of the listed files by pressing [DEL].
Select the file to delete with the select bar and press [DEL].
FileBoss will ask for confirmation of the delete by prompting,
"Delete File?". Press [Y] to delete the high-lighted file. Any
other response aborts the delete command. FileBoss will not
delete files that have been protected or hidden. Review the file
attribute information listed on screen before selecting the [DEL]
option. (See Protect/Unprotect and Hide/Unhide for information on
file attributes).
-5-

SOURCE. To access several source directories at once, use the
Clip Board Move options. The Clip Board allows much more
flexibility in SOURCE file selection.

Select [H HIDE/UNHIDE FILE(S)] with the cursor keys or press
H. Select a hide operation, Hide or Unhide. Enter the file name
at the prompt.

The window scrolls by pressing the cursor up and down keys. Press
[ESC] to quit browsing the file.

truncated if the file is edited.
I Get Disk Information:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This command returns several facts about current default
disk.
Disk Type - Floppy or Hard Disk. If the disk is a floppy
the number of sides and format scheme are displayed. For
example, double sided - 9 sectors per track.
Number of Disk Clusters - This information indicates the
type of FAT (File Allocation Table) in use. Disks with
less than 4,086 clusters use 12-bit FAT entries. 4,086
or more clusters indicates 16-bit FAT entries.
Sectors Per Cluster - This may vary depending upon DOS
version and media type.
Individual Sector Size - This is usually 512 bytes for XT
disks.
Disk Capacity - The total disk storage capacity in bytes.
Free Capacity - The amount of available space in bytes.
Formatted Using - Returns the DOS Version used to format the
disk.
-11-
Number of FAT's - This is usually 2.
Sectors Per FAT - This may vary with different media types.
Number of heads - This is usually 2 for floppy drives, 4 or
more for hard disks.
Hidden Sectors - This is the starting sector number of the
DOS partition.
Reserve Sectors - A value of 1 or more usually indicates a
bootable disk.
Maximum Root Directory Entries - 512 is standard for Hard
Disks. Floppies may return
112.
V Toggle Disk Verify Function:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Use this command to turn on/off DOS's disk Verify function.
You may want to turn the Verify on if you suspect your disk
files have been corrupted due to disk errors. The Verify will
remain on after leaving FileBoss. Disk I/O will slow down if
Verify is ON.
NOTE - Your disk controller must support VERIFY to use this
function.
R Read Environment Table:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This command returns information about the current operating
environment such as, COMSPEC, PATH and PROMPT.
M Modify Search Path:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Use this command to change the current search path. NOTE -
there are subtle differences in DOS versions used by various
clone manufacturers. This command may fail on some machines.

The FileBoss Clip Board
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Features:
The Clip Board is a powerful utility that provides enhanced
execution of various FileBoss commands.
Clip Board Features:
1. Selectively Move files from one or more directories at
the same time.
2. Selectively Copy files from one or more directories and
drives at the same time.
3. Selectively Delete files from one or more directories
at the same time.
The FileBoss Clip Board does for files what text editor
clipboards do for text. Move/Insert, Copy and Delete whole blocks
of files easily and efficiently.
2. Adding Files to the Clip Board:
Before you can use the Clip Board utilities you must
designate the Clip Board files. Files are selected from the
List/Select files window by hi-lighting the file name with the
cursor keys. Copy the file name into the Clip Board by pressing
the Grey+ key. The Clip Board will retain up to one-hundred file
names per command. Don't worry if you select the wrong file. It
can be removed from the file list before you execute a Clip Board
command.
The Clip Board allows selection of files from different
drives and directories. This is handy if you need to work with
files from different sources at the same time.
3. Reviewing the Clip Board contents:
You can review the Clip Board from the Main Menu by pressing
Alt-V (Alt and V at the same time). Use the cursor keys to
scroll the Clip Board window.
4. Removing Files from the Clip Board:
a. Clearing the Clip Board:
In some instances you may want to clear the Clip Board
of all files. You can do this from the Main Menu by
pressing Alt-N. Note that this feature is turned off when
you are in the Clip Board View mode.
b. Selective File Removal
Files may be selectively removed from the Clip Board.
You may want to do this if you've entered the wrong file or
have encountered an error during a Clip Board operation.
From the Main Menu press Alt-V to enter the Clip Board
View mode. Use the cursor keys to hi-light the file you
want to remove. Press the [Del] key.
-13-
5. The Clip Board Move command:
The Clip Board Move command enhances the FileBoss Move
utility in several convenient ways.
- One keystroke operation.
- Select files individually (as opposed to the Move command
search mask operation).
- Move files from many different directories at the same
time.
Moving Files from the Main Menu:
You can move files when in the Main Menu by pressing
Alt-M. The Clip Board files will be moved to the current
directory displayed at the bottom of the screen. Use this
option when you want to move files to an empty directory.
Moving Files when in the List/Select window:
You can move files by pressing the [Ins] key. The Clip
Board files will be moved to the currently displayed
directory. FileBoss will display a new files list to
include the new files.
6. The Clip Board Copy command:
The Clip Board enhances the FileBoss Copy utility as it does
the Move function above.
Press Alt-C from the Main Menu to activate the Clip Board
Copy option. Enter the destination Drive:\Directory at the
prompt. You must enter the full destination path. For example,
to copy the Clip Board files to drive A: enter A:\
7. The Clip Board Delete command:
The Clip Board enhances the FileBoss Delete utility as it
does the Move function above.
Press Alt-D from the Main Menu to activate the delete
utility. You must confirm the Clip Board files delete by
answering "Y" at the prompt. Any other response terminates the
Clip Board delete.
