SoundSculptor's interface is broken up into a few
key areas: the Main Menu, the File Status Indi-
cators, the Operator Control panels, the Global
Control panel and the on-screen Piano Keyboard.
__ MAIN MENU ______________________________________
The Main Menu consists of the File, View and Help
buttons near the top of the screen.
The File button opens up the file control menu.
Simply click on the desired menu item to engage it.
Click on the View button to view a report of the
numerical control settings.
The Help button gains you access to the program's
on-line help screens.
__ FILE MANAGEMENT ________________________________
SoundSculptor used two file formats to save your
sounds. INS files contains a single sound. "INS"
stands for "instrument". BNK files contain a group
of sounds. "BNK" stands for "bank". Some programs
use INS files, others use BNK files.
SoundSculptor keeps track of the file type you are
using. Simply glance at the File Status indicators
at the right of the Main Menu buttons. The current
file type is highlighted.
The name to the right of the "BNK" label is of the
current BNK file in use. You may use the Change BNK
item in the File Menu to select another BNK file to
use. The name to the right of the "INS:" label is
that of the current sound.
The "Save" item in the File Menu saves your sound
to the current file type. Use the "Save to .INS" or
"Save to .BNK" items to save to a specific format.
The "Load" items work the same way.
__ PARAMETER CONTROL ______________________________
There are two Operator Control panels. The left
one controls the Modulator Operator, the right one
controls the Carrier Operator. Refer to the
"Synthesis" section for an explanation of the
Modulator and Carrier Operators.
An Operator Panel is further broken down into a
number of individual parameter controls. There are
four basic types of controllers. Namely, sliders,
toggle buttons, radio buttons and envelope control-
lers.
To adjust a slider, simply use the mouse to click
the rectangular "knob" and hold the mouse button
down while moving the mouse left or right. Lift
your finger from the mouse when you are satisfied
with the slider position. In general, moving to the
right INCREASES the parameter's value. As an
example, OUTPUT is adjusted using a slider.
To ajust a toggle button, click the button. A check
mark appears on the button if the parameter is
selected. ENV SCALING is an example of a toggle
button.
To adjust a radio button, simply click the desired
value in the row of buttons. The selected button
will appear inverted. The currently selected but-
ton will return to normal. WAVE is an example of a
radio button.
To adjust an envelope controller, click on one of
the nodes (little diamonds) and move the mouse in
any direction while holding the mouse button down.
The movement of the node is restricted by the
bounds of the panel and adjacent nodes. These con-
trollers appear at the top of the Operator Panels.
The Global Control panel is used to adjust
parameters that are not specific to either Operator.
FEEDBACK is controlled using a slider while
CONNECTION employs radio buttons.
