  3.  First Time Installation of Zip Control
  4.  --------------------------------------
  5.  Zip Control may be easily installed by running the included Install.exe
  6.  program.
  7.  
  8.  If you have not already done so, unzip all the files in the Zip Control
  9.  archive (.zip file) into a temporary directory (NOT to the intended
  10.  directory for Zip Control). Then run the Install program.
  11.  
  12.  The installation program will request the drive and directory
  13.  in which Zip Control should be installed. The directory will be created
  14.  if it does not exist.
  15.  
  16.  Zip Control Desktop objects (folder, program references) may be
  17.  installed by the installation program, at the user's option. We
  18.  recommend that you do run the Install program. It sets up additional,
  19.  useful DeskTop objects and places one entry in the OS2.INI file that
  20.  will assist in future installs or uninstall.
  21.  
  22.  As mentioned above, one entry will be placed in the OS2.INI file:  the
  23.  installation directory for Zip Control. This entry will be used
  24.  (and removed) if the "Remove" (Zip Control) option of the Install
  25.  program is later selected.
  26.  
  27.  Zip Control will store user preferences in the ZipCntrl.ini file which
  28.  is created in the Zip Control directory the first time that Zip Control
  29.  is used. Additionally, the customer-unique Zip Control License Key will
  30.  be stored in the ZipCntrl.ini file so that the License Key will not
  31.  need to be re-entered for subsequent updates.
  32.  
  33.  No changes to the Config.sys file will be made by Zip Control or the
  34.  installation program. No hidden files are created by Zip Control. The
  35.  unlicensed, Evaluation version of Zip Control is not limited in any
  36.  way, other than a beginning "unlicensed" message.
  37.  
  38.  To perform a manual installation instead of using Install.exe, see
  39.  Manual Installation below.  It is recommended that the included
  40.  Install.exe be used instead of a manual install.

  42.  Updating an Existing Version of Zip Control
  43.  -------------------------------------------
  44.  1. Make sure that you do not have a copy of Zip Control running.
  45.  
  46.  2. If you are updating a previous version of Zip Control, MAKE A BACKUP
  47.     of your existing Zip Control directory. You can then revert to the
  48.     previous version if there are problems in running the new version.
  49.  
  50.  3. Perform the installation as described above in "First Time
  51.     Installation of Zip Control".
  52.  
  53.  Removal (Uninstall)
  54.  -------------------
  55.  To remove Zip Control, including any references in the OS2.INI file and
  56.  Desktop folders and program references created by the Install program,
  57.  run the Install program and select Remove.
  58.  
  59.  Install should be not be run from the Zip Control directory.
  60.  
  61.  Exit Zip Control before running the Install program.
  62.  
  63.  Manual Installation
  64.  -------------------
  65.  (It is recommended that the included Install.exe be used instead of a
  66.   manual install.)

  68.  1. If updating an existing version of Zip Control, see Backup note above.
  69.  
  70.  2. Copy the Zip Control zip file to the Zip Control directory (create
  71.     if necessary). The default Zip Control directory name is \ZipCntrl.
  72.  
  73.  3. Change to the Zip Control directory. Example:
  74.  
  75.     CD \ZipCntrl
  76.  
  77.  4. Use UnZip.exe to unzip the Zip Control zip file into the Zip Control
  78.     directory. Example:
  79.  
  80.     UNZIP -o ZIPCTnnn.ZIP    (where nnn is the version of Zip Control)
  81.  
  82.     Then unzip the file ZipCtIns.ZIP (which was inside ZIPCTnnn.zip):

  84.     UNZIP -o ZipCtIns.ZIP
  85.  
  86.  5. ZipCtnnn.zip and ZipCtIns.zip may then be deleted from the Zip Control
  87.     directory. If disk space is short, the only required files for Zip
  88.     Control operation are: ZipCntrl.exe, ZipCntrl.hlp, zcNLS.dll,
  89.     UnZip.exe, Zip.exe, UnZipSFX.exe, UnZipSFX.dos, and ZipCntrl.ini
  90.     (ZipCntrl.ini is created by ZipCntrl.exe the first time Zip Control
  91.     is used).

  93.  6. Create one or more (see AutoUnZip feature in Help or History.doc)
  94.     Desktop program reference objects from which to launch Zip Control.
  95.  
  96.  NOTE: If you plan to use an existing Zip Control (ZipCntrl.exe) to unzip
  97.  this new delivery to your EXISTING Zip Control directory or to run the
  98.  Install program from Zip Control's QwikEval feature, you will see an
  99.  error message at the point where it attempts to unzip ZipCntrl.exe.
  100.  This is because your existing copy of ZipCntrl.exe is in use and OS/2
  101.  will not allow it to be "overwritten" with a new copy, while it is in
  102.  use. If attempting the installation by using Zip Control's QwikEval
  103.  feature, just exit the QwikEval feature (without deleting the temporary
  104.  directory), exit Zip Control, and proceed with either a manual
  105.  installation or via the installation program.

  107.  If, instead, you use Zip Control to unzip the new Zip Control files to
  108.  a temporary directory to install the files, once the delivery has been
  109.  unzipped successfully, fully exit Zip Control (so that ZipCntrl.exe will
  110.  not be in use), and copy all the files from the new temporary directory
  111.  to your old/existing directory, for a manual installation. Or you may
  112.  run the Install program for an automated installation.
  113.  
  114.  This way your existing ZipCntrl.ini file (which contains your License Key
  115.  and your other ZC customization) will still be used (will not be
  116.  overwritten).
  117.  
  118.  NOTE:  If you "test run" the new Zip Control in the temporary directory,
  119.         ZC creates a new ZipCntrl.ini file. This new ZipCntrl.ini file
  120.         will not contain your License Key nor any of your Zip Control
  121.         customizations. If you then wild card copy (*.*) the files to
  122.         your old Zip Control directory, the newly created ZipCntrl.ini
  123.         file will overwrite your old ZipCntrl.ini file, and your
  124.         License Key and customizations will be lost. You may want to
  125.         delete the ZipCntrl.ini file in the temporary directory (used for
  126.         the test run) before copying the new ZC files to your old ZC
  127.         directory.
