  9.  During the  latest  election  campaign
  10. in France, the ecologist parties  talked
  11. about  "Sharing"  the work.  Old parties
  12. laughed a lot...   " Those utopic ecolo-
  13. gists are priceless ! " they said.

  16.  French  wealth  is  rising  constancy.
  17.  Since 1981  its  GDP  ( Gross Domestic
  18. Product ( PIB for Frenchies)) increased
  19. of 35%.
  20.  Quoted  share  on  the  Stock exchange
  21. rised of 400%.
  22.  And we don't consume less than we did.
  23.  
  24.  So why is  there  so  many  unemployed
  25. people ?
  26.  
  27.  Because employers  need less and  less
  28. people to produce better and more thanx
  29. to new technologies.

  31. An example:
  32. In 1985 in Belgium, 39200 workers  were
  33. used to produce  10,6 millions  of tons
  34. of steel.
  35.  In 1990,  21200 workers  could produce
  36. 11,5 millions of tons.
  37.  Conclusion: Production +10%
  38.              Workers    -50%
  39.  Production and  work  haven't  anymore
  40. a real link, so why should we  be  paid
  41. only for our work when  employers  have
  42. also money from machine  work  and  pay
  43. taxes on men and not machines.

  45.   Unemployment,  early retirement, RMI,
  46. training paid by the government...
  47. cost every year about  380 billions  in
  48. France.
  49.  And every year taxes must be risen for
  50. the new unemployed.

  52.   What  is  called  "Share of Work"  or
  53. "Work Revolution"  doesn't   mean  that
  54. with 1 job,  2 people  will  work,  but
  55. that every workers  will  work  about 5
  56. hours less a week, and  that  employers
  57. just pay the  worked hours  so it costs
  58. the same price for  the company to have
  59. 100 people working  39 hours  than  115
  60. people working 34 hours.

  62.   But you  will  told  me  that  people
  63. won't accept to be paid less.  That  is
  64. right, because in that  case  we  don't
  65. share work but unemployment.

  67.    So the governement have to pay the 5
  68. hours of work that  people  don't  work
  69. with the money they  used  to  give  to
  70. unemployed.

  72.    And so everybody  is happy,  we work
  73. less  for  the  same pay,  more  people
  74. work, people don't  feel  paying  taxes
  75. for lazy unemployed.

  77.   Moreover as we can't consume more and
  78. more every year  ( we  can't have all 3
  79. cars per family  all  around  the world
  80. due to  ecologic  problems  or  to  eat
  81. twice more what we eat in 93.).
  82.   Whereas productivity  has  no  reason
  83. to stop  we can expect to work 20 hours
  84. a week or less in the next decades. And
  85. we will have to learn new ways to spend
  86. our time,  to  do  voluntary  work  for
  87. charitable organization, to  play  with
  88. computers,  or  any  activity  for  the
  89. community  to  live  in  a better world
  90. together.

  92.  As you can see Ecologist Work Share is
  93. different from what  we often  hear  on
  94. Radio, TV  it  doesn't  mean  flexitime
  95. chose by employers when there are work,
  96. or decrease the pay  with  the  working
  97. time,nor precarious work.
