Air Warrior(r) Rules of Conduct and Policies
Current as of 8/12/98 5:00 PM
============================================
The following represents the policies under which players may
participate in Air Warrior. These polices are in addition to any rules
of conduct published by your service provider. The service provider's
rules of conduct will be enforced at all times. Please read these
policies and adhere to them. Violation of the rules can result in the
permanent lockout of your account from the game.
Offenses
========
Abusive Behavior
----------------
Air Warrior(r) is a social game, and much of the fun and excitement
comes from interaction among players. To a certain extent, it is up to
the players to decide what behavior is reasonable and what is
unreasonable within the game community.
However, bad language, scrolling, harassment, personal threats, and
other truly offensive behavior are not allowed; neither is "fragging,"
the process by which one player intentionally fires at a player,
structure, or drone on the same team, whether the target is destroyed
or not. Offenders will be subject to the penalties described below.
To report a player who is demonstrating abusive behavior in an
Officers Club or Headquarters, type /complain followed by a
description of the behavior, or press the ALERT (exclamation mark)
button in the lower right-hand part of the screen and fill in the
description of your complaint when the dialog window appears. In
flight, type /*c followed by the description. These complaints will be
automatically logged along with the previous five minutes of
chat/radio traffic.
Spurious use of the "Complaint Logging" feature is a violation of Air
Warrior rules of conduct, and offenders will be subject to the
penalties described below.
Pilot Handles and CPIDs
-----------------------
Obscene or offensive handles will not be tolerated. Players with
obscene or offensive character names will be subject to the penalties
described below.
The following character combinations, and those which Air Warrior(r)
staff members deem similar enough, are reserved for official use only.
Any player observed using any of these combinations, or similar ones,
in such a way as might cause confusion to other players, is subject to
the penalties below.
Staff;
ARIES;
GameStorm;
Kesmai;
AWAR;
In addition, GameStorm strongly discourages players from deliberately
impersonating another player.
Bug Abuse & Cheating
--------------------
Bug abuse disrupts the overall economy of the game and lessens the
enjoyment of the game for everyone. Any effort to employ game bugs to
your advantage in Air Warrior(r) is not allowed; violators will be
subject to the penalties described below. Examples of bug abuse
include: Intentionally disconnecting from the game to avoid game
losses.
All bugs should be reported so that we can fix them. If you observe
someone else abusing a serious bug, please report it to
awsupport@kesmai.com.
Miscellaneous
-------------
Players discovered to be playing on an account registered to a
fraudulent or incorrect name, address, or billing method will be
immediately locked out. Air Warrior(r) is not to be used as a venue
for the promotion of competing products or services. Individuals who
actively promote competing products or services within Air Warrior(r)
will be subject to the penalties described below.
GameStorm reserves the right to make special-case adjustments to its
policies and its actions concerning violation of these policies.
Penalties
=========
Anyone found to be in violation of the rules of conduct described in
this document, at the sole determination of GameStorm, will be subject
to the following:
1. First violation: The player will receive a warning, either within
the game or via e-mail, describing his/her alleged breach of policy.
2. Second violation: The player will be locked out of Air Warrior(r)
for a period of up to one month, and will be notified via e-mail.
3. Third violation: The player will be locked out of Air Warrior(r)
permanently.
If the player has more than one account, all accounts, on all
services, will be simultaneously subject to the above actions.
In certain circumstances, such as extremely abusive behavior,
modifying the software, fragging multiple players, and so forth, a
player will be locked out without warning or notice of any kind at the
discretion of the acting staff member. However, Air Warrior(r) Product
Support will follow up with an e-mail explaining why this step was
taken.
Air Warrior(r) Assistants
=========================
Game staff designated with [AWAR] in their handles are empowered by
Kesmai to warn or eject an offending player who is violating these
Rules of Conduct. All appeals to actions taken by an assistant should
be e-mailed directly to awsupport@kesmai.com.
Policies and Disclaimers
========================
Air Warrior(r) is presented on an "as is" basis. By your using the Air
Warrior(r) product, you agree to accept this disclaimer, and agree not
to hold GameStorm or its affiliates responsible for any game
interruption or "bug" which may affect your play of this game.
GameStorm is not obligated to credit a player (with experience, items,
gold, or hit points, etc.) if his/her usage is interrupted by a
software failure or other service interrupt. GameStorm's sole
obligation is to make a reasonable effort to fix a software problem or
to return service as quickly as possible where such is within the
reasonable control of GameStorm. GameStorm will have no obligations
with regard to service interruptions which are unrelated to the
GameStorm service or the game itself. GameStorm reserves the right to
discontinue game access or GameStorm service to any individual whose
behavior is, in the judgment of GameStorm and/or its managing agents,
disruptive in any way to the game and its community. Should your
access be discontinued or terminated for such reason, you agree that
GameStorm shall have no liability to you under any theory of law or
damages.
Chat/Event Logging
------------------
It is standard operating procedure for Air Warrior to log all chat and
significant events that occur within the game. These files are
completely confidential except when violations of a service's terms of
service require they be delivered to the service provider as proof of
a charge in a disciplinary measure.
Game Mechanics
--------------
GameStorm reserves the right to issue modifications to the game at any
time, with or without notice. GameStorm will routinely add new
features, modify existing features, and alter additions or revisions
that did not function as expected. These changes may affect your
character in a variety of ways. If you feel that the change unfairly
penalizes your pilot record, given the requirements of balance,
challenge, and the general good of the game, then you may make your
views known to Air Warrior(r) Product Support. It should be
understood, however, that GameStorm maintains a longer-range view
which may be in conflict with short-term and pilot-specific interests.
GameStorm will always attempt to make the best decision for the
overall good of the game.
Transferring Pilot Records
--------------------------
Under no circumstances will GameStorm transfer an existing pilot
record from one online service to another online service. If you
decide to switch online services, you will have to create a new record
for the new service. Even within the same service, characters cannot
be transferred from one account to another.
Pilot Record Purges
-------------------
Inactive pilots will be purged from the database to make room for
active pilots. The rules are as follows:
If an account's total playing time in the game is under an hour, and
no player on the account has visited the game for at least 15 days,
the account will be purged from the database.
If no player on an account has visited the game for a period of 90
days, the account will be purged from the database. To prevent this
from happening, players may ask that their pilot be "frozen." Freezing
pilot records is described below.
Freezing Pilot Records
----------------------
Players who expect to be unable to access the game for periods of 90
days or longer may ask that their account be frozen. When an account
is frozen, the 90-day inactivity limit is waived, and the account
remains open for 12 months following the freeze date. To freeze and
unfreeze accounts, players must send e-mail to awsupport@kesmai.com.
Accounts left frozen longer than 12 months will be purged from the
database. Exceptions are made in special circumstances, such as active
duty in the Armed Forces overseas.
