Command: Print/Color Palette Mixer/Edit < PCE >
Purpose: Change the color mix printing mix of colors
Information:
See Print/Color Palette Mixer for description of printing.
The editor is similar to the Color selection screen provided
by Setup/Colors.
Each palette consists of the following:
a palette filename
a palette descriptive name
16 names for the 16 colors
16 Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, and Black mix values
Color 16 is shown on the left since it is equivalent to
color 0, or black. For best results, colors 7, 15, & 16
should be altered only if necessary since they provide black
and white (no print) capability.
If Color Weave is ON, the mixing screen shows the current
VGA/EGA Video Weave Palette; otherwise the colors are
presented in the menus palette.
Comments:
If PaintJet Color Graphics mode is ON, the palette mixer
presents color mixes in terms of RGB values instead of the
ribbon band colors. If PaintJet Color Graphics is OFF, the
palette can be used for PaintJet text mode mixed colors.
The editor is mouse sensitive and presents a mouse cursor
for "clickable" mouse action.
You must save the palette to preserve your work.

Command: Print/Color Palette Mixer/Save-Load < PCS or PCL >
Purpose: Save or load the color printing mix of colors
Information:
See Print/Color Palette Mixer/Edit for description of a
palette.
The .PMN palette mix file contains all components of the
palette.
Comments:
You may wish to create and save related VGA/EGA video
palettes and color printer palettes. Since a video palette
has the .PCL suffix and a printer mix has the .PMN suffix,
both files can have the same prefix filename.
You must save the palette to preserve your work. Loading a
new palette erases the current palette.
Two sample palettes are provided with Patternland:
"Palette.PMN" prints the default screen colors palette and
is identical to the original installed "Patland.PMN" file
which loads each time Patternland starts up.
"Spectrum.PMN" is an alternate palette which goes with
VGA/EGA palette "Spectrum.PCL"

Command: Print/Color Palette Mixer/Print Sample < PCP >
Purpose: Print the current palette with color names
Information:
This provides a reference sheet for your printer palette
containing the file, palette, and color names along with the
mixes and 16 color sample bars.
Comments:
You must pre-set the Single Printed Warp character to a
graphics block character or downloadable block character to
achieve solid color bars for the sample. By using other
Printed Single Warp characters, you can also observe how
various characters used in multi-symbol printing carry the
colors.
This feature is available for PaintJet text mode color mix
palettes; it is not available for PaintJet Color Graphics
palettes.

Command: Print/Color Palette Mixer/Rainbow < PCR >
Purpose: Print 250 of 625 possible mixed colors
Information:
This provides a reference sheet for creating new printer
palettes since it shows the mix of Yellow, Magenta, Cyan,
and Black required to produce the first 250 possible colors.
Continuous paper is required for best results; the sample
will print over the perforation for a continuous sample.
Comments:
Uses the Single Printed Warp character like Print Sample.
Provides a key for PaintJet text mode palettes but not
for Color Graphics palette colors. Use the PaintJet's
internal print sample feature for a printout of available
color graphics colors.

Command: Print/Color Palette Mixer/Data Color < PCD >
Purpose: Set the data color for mixed color printing
Information:
All data in text mode mixed color printing is printed in 1
of the 7 standard printer colors, not a mixed color.
This feature presents the color selector screen similar to
the palette editor itself, however the menus palette is
used since the data color is not a mixed color.
Graphics modes Data Color IS mixed just like the other
colors. Thus Data Color can also be selected with
Weave/Graphpaper/Color of Lines-Data; then the color select
screen is presented in the Weaving Palette.
Comments:
The data, Symbols Warp-Weft ON, however, IS printed in the
mixed color.
3 of the 7 standard printer colors are internally mixed by
the printer, requiring two different color band strikes to
create. For the purposes of this discussion, none of the 7
are "mixed colors".
In seven-color printing, all data for warp and weft threads
matches the color of the thread.

Command: Print/Color Palette Mixer/New < PCN >
Purpose: Erase the current color printing palette
Information:
All data in the current palette is erased.
Choose Print/Color Palette Mixer/Edit to create a new
palette after erasing it.
Comments:
The palette file is not changed.
However, if you edit the palette and save a new one with
the same name, the previous version is overwritten by the
new file.

Command: Print/Color Palette Mixer/Convert Video < PCC >
Purpose: Create a printer palette from the EGA/VGA video palette
Information:
DOT MATRIX PRINTER WITH COLOR MIX PRINTING MODE ON:
Patternland analyzes the current video palette and creates
a Color Mix palette by reading a table of Yellow, Magenta,
Cyan, and Black color mixes contained in the Printer driver
file. Color mixes for EGA colors 0 to 63 are contained in
the driver under #76 to #81. With a VGA system, the VGA
palette is first converted to the closest EGA palette, with
the result converted to the print mix. Thus 64 printer
colors can be created with this option. Choose Print/Color
Palette Mixer/Edit to view and manually fine tune the
resulting palette mix using the sample printout created
with the Rainbow Print option.
HP PAINTJET WITH PAINTJET COLOR GRAPHICS MODE ON:
Patternland analyzes the current video palette and creates
an RGB PaintJet palette by converting the video RGB values
0-3 (EGA) or 0-63 (VGA) to the allowable NTSC RGB range for
the PaintJet: 4-90 (red); 4-88 (green); 6-85 (blue).
Choose Print/Color Palette Mixer/Edit to view and manually
fine tune the resulting palette using the tables in the
PaintJet manual along with the PaintJet's own sample
printout.
All mixes in the current palette are altered, but the
palette name, color names, and file name are not changed.
Comments:
You should change the palette filename before saving it to
avoid overwriting your previous version.
CGA systems can automatically create only one palette from
the standard video colors.
Convert Video for Dot Matrix Color Printers uses a table in
the printer driver as stated above. You can permanently
alter the mixes Convert Video provides for each of the 64
EGA colors by editing the printer driver. Use Patternland's
File/Write editor; edit the Patland.PDV file; scroll down to
the beginning of the palette mixes at option #76; and change
the color strikes for each ribbon band to a value from 0-4
as desired. The file is commented to show which EGA color
you are adjusting.
For PaintJet Color Graphics mode, the mode must be ON to
correctly view and/or change the results in the editor. The
Window header says PaintJet Palette if PaintJet Color
Graphics are ON; also, the mixes are presented in RGB
values. For TEXT mode PaintJet printing, use Color Mix
Printing mode, and the results are presented in terms of
print overstrikes for Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, and Black.

_______________________________________________________________
Command: Print/Color Palette Mixer/Auto-Palette < PCA >
Purpose: SWITCH--Recreate printer palette from video EGA/VGA
Information:
This feature is identical to Convert Video except the
palette is created automatically every time the weaving is
printed if the switch is ON. This allows the most "hands-
off" approach to printing in color after adjusting the
EGA/VGA video palette for the desired colors.
Comments:
Color Mix Printing Mode or PaintJet Color Graphics mode must
be ON for the auto-palette feature to function.
In this mode it is not necessary to save the print palette
if you save the weaving because the video palette is saved
with the weaving and the printer palette will be recreated
exactly at each printing.
