OVERVIEW OF PRINTING A WEAVING IN PATTERNLAND
Detailed information on printing can be found under the context
sensitive information presented when you press the help key with
the various printing options highlighted. See also the files on
the help menu under Dot Matrix and HP Series.
Printing a weaving is accomplished by opening the main Print menu
and selecting the Weaving option. The weaving will be printed in
either text mode or a graphics mode, depending on the current
settings in Patternland. Both the Print and the Weave menus
control aspects of the printout--the Weave menu options control
options common to both Displaying and Printing the weaving, while
the Print menu is specific to printing.
There are numerous other settings besides the selection of text or
graphics which control the appearance of the weaving. So the
first step in printing a weaving is to determine that all settings
are as desired. These are the steps you could follow:
1. Choose Print/Modes. Select either text or graphics mode.
Text mode prints with characters, including numbers for the
weave data; graphics mode prints solely with dots to form blocks
to represent the pattern and data. If you have a color printer,
select a color method (read the help for a description of each
option); Display/Color Weave must also be on if you want more than
one color for warp and weft.
2. IF YOU SELECTED GRAPHICS PRINTING:
Open the Print/Graphics Options menu and open the Graphics
Mode menu; as you move the highlight bar with the arrow keys
or the mouse, the menu information line tells you about each
available mode's resolution. Select the one you want.
Based on the mode you selected, set the Horizontal and
Vertical Aspect Magnification if you need an unequal aspect.
Then select the Zoom Magnification level you want. This
number is multiplied times the aspect to determine the size of
the graphic. A Zoom of 0 means that magnification is OFF.
Open the Weave/Graphpaper menu if you want a graphpaper
background to the printout. For graphics modes, this menu
allows you to select the highlight increment as well as the
size and spacing of regular and highlight lines. If you are
using a color printer, open the Colors of Lines/Data menu too.
IF YOU SELECTED TEXT PRINTING:
Open the Print/Text Options menu and turn on Multi-Symbol
printing if you want it. If it is on, the multi-symbol set
will be used (Edit/Symbols/Warp-Weft/Select Symbol Set). If
multi-symbols are not selected, the single warp and weft
symbols will be used (Edit/Symbols/Warp-Weft/Single Printer
Symbol). From this menu, you can also select the graphpaper
background (you don't need the full Weave/Graphpaper menu
since there aren't any options to set for text mode graphpaper
background).
For text printing, the sett of the weaving is controlled with
the Print/Setup/Printer menu. The number of characters per
inch horizontally is equivalent to the ends per inch and the
lines per inch vertically is equivalent to picks per inch.
Note that text mode with graphpaper requires an H10 x V10
horizontal/vertical setup. Dot matrix printers normally print
at 10 characters per inch, but you must select V10 to set them
to 10 lines per inch. (If you are using a Laser printer, the
10x10 setup is automatic if graphpaper is selected.) With a
dot matrix printer, this is also where you can download a
square block for the pattern character. (See Help/Dot
Matrix.) You can also use the Print/Setup/Define Setup option
to record selections from the setup screen to be sent to the
printer at each printing. The recording selections are saved
in the weaving file.
3. Open the main Weave/Data menu and select the kinds of data you
want included in the printout, e.g. threading plan, & lift (peg)
plan or treadling/tieup. Options like Peg Plan Numeric are only
available for text printing. See the help for each option for a
description.
4. Also from the Weave menu, select the Title Line if you want it
printed (you write it when you save a weaving or from Edit/
Symbols/Write Title Line).
5. Select the Weave/Format to determine the arrangement of the
data relative to the drawup.
6. Now that everything is as you want it, decide if you want to
try to print the whole weaving or a selected range. If you want
only a section to print, select Print/Range/Weaving; otherwise
choose Print/Weaving. Once you have selected a range, you can
choose Print/Weaving to repeat the same range. If you print the
whole weaving and it is too wide, Patternland will automatically
print as much as possible; later you can print the additional warp
sections with Print/Range.
7. All of the above settings are saved with the weaving file, so
re-save the weaving with File/Save/Weaving once you achieve the
desired style of printout. Likewise, you can save the opening
weaving with the settings you want so new weavings will be created
with the desired settings from the beginning.
OVERVIEW OF PRINTING A DESIGN IN PATTERNLAND
The Design Screen for Weave Analysis is where you enter a
pattern directly as opposed to by threading and treadling. Then
you ask Weave Wizard to produce a threading and lift plan.
Printing a design is exactly like printing a weaving. Just follow
the same steps above, except choose Print/Design or
Print/Range/Design instead of Print/Weaving. A "design" is
printed as WARP pattern using the Warp symbol or symbol set;
unfilled squares in the design are printed with the single printed
weft symbol.
