Command: Setup/View < SV >
Purpose: Show status of program switches and settings
Information:
This screen provides a summary of settings and switches
displayed on many menus.
A checkmark before a switch name indicates it is ON.
You can press the Print Screen key if want a visual record
of the current status.
Comments:
All displayed status settings are saved with the weaving and
configuration file. Peruse the Setup/View screen before
Setup/Save to confirm everything is as you want it.

Command: Setup/Colors < SC >
Purpose: Menu--Control selection of program colors
Information:
Every window has four component colors; each component
consists of both foreground/background colors.
Heading, Frame, Main Text, and Highlighted Text are the four
adjustable components.
Comments:
All colors are saved with the weaving and configuration
file.
Change colors to your preference before using Setup/Save to
preserve the program environment.

Command: Setup/Displays < SD >
Purpose: Menu--Select correct system video display
Information:
Patternland supports 9 IBM video configurations from
Monochrome text to VGA.
The current display is the number on the menu and is shown
on Setup/View.
The current display controls what Patternland can do to your
video system. For example, if the current display is 1, a
CGA system, you cannot access the EGA or VGA palettes.
Select the correct display before using Setup/Save.
Reselect Setup/Displays after loading a weaving created on a
different video system.
Comments:
The current display is saved with the weaving and
configuration file.
If you create a weaving with an EGA system and upgrade later
to a VGA system, you must Setup/Displays and resave the
weaving; otherwise, you cannot access the VGA palette.
When upgrading from EGA to VGA, Patternland recalculates
your EGA palettes to corresponding VGA R/G/B values.
Patternland does not support Hercules monochrome graphics;
users with monochrome systems select display 0 TTL Mono.
VGA/MCGA users with Black & White displays should select
Setup/Colors/B&W Reset AFTER selecting an MCGA or VGA
display. This will leave access to all MCGA/VGA features,
but will reset all program colors appropriate to monochrome.

Command: Setup/Save < SS >
Purpose: Save the current program configuration
Information:
The Patternland environment is saved with EVERY weaving
file. When you reload a weaving, you enter the "room"
exactly as you left it.
Patternland loads a weaving called "Patland.PWV" every time
it starts up.
By adjusting the program switches and colors the way you
want them before saving this setup, your new weavings will
be created in the environment you select.
Save/Setup simply saves the current weaving under the name
"Patland.PWV". You can substitute your own pattern for the
design Patternland comes with, or you can save a blank
weaving of the size you usually start with.
To Setup the program for your display the first time:
1. Choose Setup/Displays and pick your configuration.
2 If you have a color system use Setup/Colors to adjust
menu and other colors to your liking (optional).
Only if you have a monochrome MCGA/VGA system, select
Setup/Colors/B&W Reset.
3. Pick this option, Setup/Save, and confirm overwriting
Patland.pwv at the warning.
Patternland creates a new configuration weaving file to load
at each startup.
Comments:
To see changes in menu colors, File/Quit and press any key
instead of confirming quit. This will refresh the main
menu colors.
The next time you load the program after Setup/Save, the new
colors are used.
File/Save/Weaving and using the name "Patland.PWV" does the
same thing as Setup/Save.

Command: Setup/Printers < SP >
Purpose: Select the correct printer driver from disk
Information:
Patternland reads the printer driver with the name
"Patland.PDV" every time is starts. This feature allows you
to select a driver and copy it to the name Patland.PDV.
To Setup the program for your printer the first time:
1. Note your correct driver name in the table below.
2. Choose Setup/Printer.
3. Specify a disk drive where the printer driver files
are located: on a 360K floppy system, B:
otherwise usually A:
and put the drivers disk in the correct drive.
4. When the directory of available drivers is presented,
select the driver filename you need and type it at
the prompt.
Patternland creates the driver you need.

Comments:
ID numbers are used to control the internal operation of
Patternland. If you write a custom printer driver the ID
you assign must be unused or equal to an ID for a similar
type of printer already supported.
The printer driver contains the file paths for help and
file activity. Setup/File Paths adds lines to the current
Patland.PDV, so Setup/Printers before Setup/File Paths.
The printer driver does NOT contain the Color Mix Print
palette. Use Print/Color Palette Mixer/Save and use the
name "Patland" to create a "Patland.PMN" color mix
configuration file.
At the DOS prompt> Copy [drivername] Patland.PDV
does the same thing as this feature.

______________________________________________________________
Command: Setup/File Paths < SF >
Purpose: Save directory paths for weaving files and help files
Information:
The printer driver, "Patland.PDV" stores the file paths for
help and file activity. Setup/File Paths adds lines to the
current Patland.PDV, so use this feature AFTER
Setup/Printers.
To select file paths the first time:
1. Use File/Change/Weaving Directory to select the drive
and directory you want to use.
2. Use File/Change/Help Files Directory if some or all
help files are on a different drive.
3. Select Setup/File Paths and press Enter to continue.
4. Patternland installs the current paths in the printer
driver.
Comments:
You can edit the printer driver with a word processor to
change file paths.
You can also add a Color Mix Palette path\filename to a
printer driver and Patternland will load it instead of
"Patland.PMN".

Command: Setup/Macros < SM >
Purpose: MENU: Play or record keystroke macros.
Information:
A "Macro" is a recorded collection of keystrokes with
optional information windows stored in a Patternland
Extended Macro file (.PXM). The file is called "extended"
because you can write text about each keystroke. The
Patternland Demo and On-line Tutorial make use of this
facility to play back the keystrokes necessary to accomplish
various tasks.
Comments:
You can edit an existing macro file with the Write/File
option as long as the text does not exceed 249 characters
without a carriage return. In that case, you should use
another word processor in ASCII text mode, like PC-Write, to
edit longer text. Normally you will record macros
interactively as you press the keys, but you cannot change
and existing macro except by editing the macro file with a
text editor.
