AB The need for sex education, counselling and HIV awareness training for
young people with severe learning difficulties is discussed in relation
to changes in community care over recent years. A qualitative evaluation
of two sex education programmes which include HIV awareness is presented
using verbatim transcripts of observed sessions. The involvement of
nurses in such programmes and the relative merits of the two approaches
observed are discussed.
