  2.                                  ARTICLE VI

  4. Section 1.    All debts contracted and engagements entered into, 
  5.               before the adoption of this Constitution, shall be as
  6.               valid against the United States under this 
  7.               Constitution, as under the Confederation.
  8.  
  9. Section 2.    This Constitution, and the laws of the United States
  10.               which shall be made in pursuance thereof, and all
  11.               treaties made, or which shall be made, under the 
  12.               authority of  the United States, shall be the supreme
  13.               law of the land; and the judges in every State shall
  14.               be bound thereby, anything in the constitution or
  15.               laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.

  17. Section 3.    The Senators and Representatives before mentioned,
  18.               and the members of the several State legislatures,
  19.               and all executive and judicial officers, both of the
  20.               United States and of the several States, shall be
  21.               bound, by oath or affirmation, to support this
  22.               Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be
  23.               required as a qualification to any office or public
  24.               trust under the United States.
