  4. Redirecting Printer Output to Disk
  5.  
  6.         To redirect your printouts to a disk file, set your printer port
  7. number to 0.  All output will then be sent to a disk file.  Just before
  8. printing begins, the program will prompt you for a filename.  Printer
  9. codes will be included in the file.

  11. Printer Compatibility
  12.  
  13.         A serious effort was made to support as many printers as
  14. possible and to utilize their features.  However, as we all know, not
  15. all printers work the same and offer the same features.  As a result,
  16. some printers may not be capable of printing every report that Family
  17. Scrapbook offers.

  19.         These four character pitches are used by Family Scrapbook to
  20. print out the many reports.  If your printer supports all four and their
  21. maximum number of characters per line, your printer should be able to
  22. print all of the reports.

  30.         Most printers can print 10, 12, and 17 characters per inch (they
  31. are very common pitches). However, there are many printers that can not
  32. print 20 characters per inch.  Most IBM print codes do not support 20
  33. cpi.  Therefore, if you have an option of using either IBM or Epson
  34. (some call it standard) emulation, Epson is probably the best choice.
  35. For those printers that do not support 20cpi, the program will attempt
  36. to print 20cpi reports in 17cpi mode, so if you are printing on a
  37. wide-carriage printer you might get acceptable output.  Also, some
  38. reports allow the option of "printing in sections" which can let you
  39. overcome the problem of a printer not supporting 20cpi.

  41. Blank Charts/Forms

  43.         All of the reports in the Blank Charts/Forms Menu are actually
  44. ASCII files.  If you wish, you can edit these files with a text editor
  45. so that they better meet your needs.  All of the files use extended
  46. ASCII characters (such as box characters).  Not all printers are capable
  47. of printing these characters.  If the printer driver that you have
  48. selected does not support extended ASCII, those characters will be
  49. replaced by the program as the file is sent to the printer.  Here are
  50. the default filenames:

  75.         While at the Blank Charts/Forms Menu, if you press the INSert
  76. key you will be given an edit screen for the highlighted item.  There,
  77. you may modify that item's description, filename, and print settings.
