Show Map in Viewport

GENERATE/B_TXTMAP2.gif

Displays mapped materials on the surfaces of objects in the interactive renderer. This feature works only with 2D maps. It can't display 3D procedural maps in viewports.

The following conditions must be met for mapped materials to display in the viewport:

The interactive renderer can only display one map for each material. To see the effect of layered or compound materials, you must use the scanline renderer.

The state of this button is saved with the material in the library. Combined with the fact that Generate Mapping Coords. is turned on when you assign a mapped material with Show Map in Viewports active, this means that you can drag mapped materials from the Material Library in the Browser over objects in your scene, and have the mapped material appear in the viewports.

Displaying mapped materials in a viewport can slow performance. If you don’t need to view the texture, turn off its viewport display.

How To

To view the map interactively:

  1. Select an object.
  2. In the object’s creation parameters, make sure that Generate Mapping Coords is checked.
  3. If the object does not have mapping coordinates, 3DStudio MAX cannot map the object.

  4. In the Material Editor, assign the mapped material to the object.
  5. Turn on Show Map in Viewport.
  6. The texture map appears on objects assigned the material in all shaded viewports. Now when you adjust the map, the viewports update to display the adjustments.

To turn off interactive texture display:

The object is shaded but the map no longer appears.
