PRESS RELEASE
netROVER SIGNS WITH UUNET TO OPTIMIZE NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE
Toronto, ON, July 16, 1997
netROVER, an ISP with coverage in Ontario and Quebec, recently signed a deal with UUNET Canada to use UUNET's dial-in Points-of-Presence (POPs) and high-performance backbone as the network infrastructure supporting the netROVER branded Internet service in Ottawa. Additional sites, including Montreal, Quebec City, Hamilton, London and Kitchener are also under deployment.
By signing with UUNET Canada, netROVER will optimize the design of its network infrastructure, combining company-owned facilities and UUNET facilities to minimize the infrastructure costs in each market served by netROVER.
netROVER is a regional ISP supporting over 9,000 residential and business customers. "We are now able to focus our attention on attracting new customers and in providing all customers with a higher quality of Internet services and customer support than currently exists in the marketplace", said Robert Adams, President of netROVER.
UUNET is a global provider of Internet services with a redundant DS-3 (45 megabits per second) cross-Canada Internet backbone connected to the company's global network infrastructure. "We are pleased to have an ISP like netROVER join with UUNET Canada in offering quality Internet service to a broader audience", said Chris Scatliff, President and CEO of UUNET Canada Inc.
"When I saw the ideal match between what netROVER wanted to focus on and what UUNET Canada had to offer, I immediately put the two companies together", said Doug Higgins the Account Executive with WorldCom Inc. who set up the agreement. "With the integration between WorldCom and UUNET, the process went smoothly and the result has been a win-win for netROVER and UUNET Canada".
