Dune 2 Save Game Editor
=======================
By C.k.
Well, had fun doing this pup... NOT :) I was in the midst of tweaking some
sorting algorithms and chose this program to be my test base when I didn't
even have the indexing done correctly. Doubled my efforts. Seemed like
every time I fixed one side, the other side fell. Like always, I did this
for a while and then re-wrote the whole set of code... :)
Anyways, Most of the stuff is self-explanatory, but I'll go over some
general principles.
Once you have a saved game, you may edit it with this editor. This editor
edits the save game files (i.e. _SAVEXXXX.DAT) and alters the set of data
to reflect what you want. I have incoporated the editing of buildings and
units. You may change one building type to another or do the same with
units. You may also edit the Hit Points for each of your buildings and
units. There are features to Maximize all of your houses units or
buildings or you may do them manually. There are options to control more
aspects of the game also. If you want to have some fun try some of these
scenarios:
■ Modify the sandworms to your household. You get 4 attacks for
buttons but you can tell it who to attack.
(although not TOO trustworthy)
■ Modify a section of the enemy's buildings to Fremen. The fremen
will attack them I think. (I've tested this a little bit with
attredies so I'm not sure about the others..)
■ Maximize one unit (like a quad or whatever) and have it zip around
mapping the whole area without getting destroyed.
(I also found out that the computer gets pre-occupied if you take
an invulnerable unit inside their defenses and just sit there.
They keep on trying to kill you and forget about everything else!)
There are MANY more things that can be done with it. I feel that editors
and trainers ENHANCE a good game. There are only SO many times you can
replay a game, no matter how good it is. I found that with editors, you
can sort of change the rules to your own liking and have at it.
Sidenote:
Hopefully packaged with this save game editor is my scenario editor and
the pakwest program I wrote to pak/unpak the westwood .PAK files.
Read the other doc file for more information on the scenario editor or
the pakwest program.
As always, any bugs intentional or otherwise, please report them back to
me if you have Usenet Access or on Fast Tracks in San Jose, CA.
