September 2006 | Software to help you protect your PC |
Virus protectionIf you connect your computer to any University network (including ResNet) you must have a working anti-virus program installed. If your computer already has a working anti-virus program that updates itself automatically, you can continue to use that software. If not, while you are a University of Exeter student you can install Symantec AntiVirus (‘SAV’) 10 on your PC or Norton AntiVirus (‘NAV’) 10 on your Apple Mac free of charge. Both programs are included on this CD. After you install it, you will need to update the anti-virus program’s list of known viruses using its LiveUpdate function. To do this you will need a working Internet connection. IMPORTANT: before you install either SAV or NAV 10, you must uninstall any other anti-virus software that is already on your computer (including earlier versions of the same program). If you don’t do this, the installation will not work!
